10 Perspective (continued from front cover) recent history the Company has paid much more than fifty percent. Medical costs are a major concern for you and for your Company. I share your concern, and I wish that I had the answer, but I do not. I do know that we must work together to reduce medical costs and to see that you are fully protected against large medical bills which might destroy your financial security. I believe, and surveys among our competition confirm, that our group insurance benefits are comparable to, or better than most companies in our industry. There are some differences, but an overall evaluation convinces me that you are provided with a good health care plan at a competitive cost. To get your input into the problem, Quality First teams have been formed to help us evaluate our medical plan design, and we expect recommendations this month. We will review recommendations and make changes we believe are appropriate to provide you with a better benefit. Finally, I want to express my hope that you have had a good summer. Please take time to register and vote in the November elections — your vote is important to all of us! It’s Time For A Change! With the addition of Chatham, the face of CMI is changing. We feel that the name of our newsletter needs to reflect that changing face. That’s why we are having a contest to rename the Clothmaker. Pictured are three mastheads that have appeared since the origin of the paper in 1952. The first issue of the newsletter in 1993 will feature a new name and masthead — and it is up to you to name it. The winner will receive a $1,000 savings bond. The new name should be representative of the entire CMI family. All CMI associates and managers are eligible to enter as many times as you like, but please enter only one suggested name at a time. Please submit your entries on a plain, white sheet of paper (so it will copy easily), print or type the suggested name clearly. Do not forget to put your name, job title, and job location on each entry. Please put a date on each entry, so that if you and another associate submit the same suggestion, judges will know which associate sub mitted it first. Please place each entry in an envelope clearly label ed “Name Change,” and give it to your Human Resource Manager. The contest will close on the day before Thanksgiving, November 25, 1992, at midnight. In addition to the honor of having their name selected, the winner will receive a $1,000 savings bond from CMI. The winner will be announced in the winter edition of the newsletter. All entries will be judged by an independent panel of judges: Cynthia Gilliam, President, Semaphore, Inc.; Betsy Havens, Presi dent, Havens Framemakers & Gallery; Grace McKown, President, Enterprise Development Inc. of S.C.; A. Jerome Jeweler, Professor, USC School of Journalism & Author of Creative Strategy in Adver tising and Dr. Stan Fryer, Associate Dean for Development, USC College of Business.
