This month, the ClothMaker salutes George Marshall for his many con tributions to the Laurens County area. Marshall, a Clinton Plant No. 2 Spin ning Technician, is a member of School District 56 Board of Trustees where he has demonstrated his interest in pro viding a quality education. He cur rently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board. He is a member of the Joanna First Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon. He is Chaplain of the Joanna Fire Department, and a member of the Joanna Lions Club. Marshall also finds time in busy schedule to serve as scoutmaster of Troop 75. He has been active in scouting 31 years and received the 1989 Silver Beaver Award from the Blue Ridge Council of Boy Scouts. He is a recipient of numerous awards James Werts, Jr. Maintenance John B. Among those are the Citizen of the Year by the Joanna Lions Club, 1978; District Award of Merit by the Boy Scouts of America, 1980; Citizen of the Year by the Joanna Moose Lodge, 1982; Family of the Year Award for S.C. Region II., 1984; and Silver Beaver Award in 1989 by the Blue Ridge Council of the Boy Scouts; and has had a role in the Joanna Textile Festival. Although widely recognized for mak ing a difference in the agencies in which he serves, Marshall has a broad interest in local and county govern ment. He was in a competitive race for Laurens County Council and lost in a re-match in the Democratic Primary. Marshall, known for his easy going manner, has a keen interest in pre serving the environment and keeps abreast of environmental laws and re cycling projects. His involvement in county social, political, and public service activities “Makes a Difference.” Retirements Retirement is an important mile stone in the lives of many employees within our company. The ClothMaker recognizes each retiree for his or her contribution to the company. Among the recent retirees are Sudie Putnam who retired August 3, 1990 from Plant No. 2 Weaving following service which began March 12,1968 and Sara Bolt, a Plant No. 2 Spinning employee who ended a work career on May 31, 1990 George Marshall Making A Difference page 4 • Cloth Maker that began December 31, 1956. Other long service employees retir ing included Stan Brown, Maintenance, on July 16, 1990 following seven years service; Doris Harvey, Cotton Lab, after 40 years service; Clyde Holt, Plant No. 2 Spinning, after seven years service; and Robert S.
