United Way helps obtain new wheelchair
When Bobbi Fallaw celebrated
her 12th birthday, she didn't know
that she was going to receive a
special gift from the United Way of
Laurens County. Bobbi was given a
new wheelchair that was specially
made to a doctor's prescription to
suit her needs.
Bobbi Fallaw has celebral palsy.
She's had celebral palsy since birth.
At the age of 2, she underwent
surgery to shimt water from her
brain. Bobbie does use crutches at
times, but she is transported in the
wheelchair. The wheelchair is also
used for major outings, such as
shopping and family activities.
She attends the Multi-
Handicapped School in
Spartanburg every day. Her parents
take her to meet the bus each
morning and meet her each
afternoon when she returns.
The wheelchair Bobbi had been
using collapsed one morning as she
was boarding the school bus. A
replacement was very expensive.
In search of assistance, Mr. Fallaw
contacted the United Way of
Laurens County. The Fallaws made
an application for assistance to get
a new wheelchair.
The United Way of Laurens
County then contacted the Easter
Seal Society, who, in turn, had the
chair made to the doctor's
prescription.
Bobbi is the daughter of Paul and
Emily Fallaw. She also has a twin
sister, Mary, who is in the gifted
program at Martha Dendy School.
Pam is a computer analyst in the
MIS Department.
