The first festival of Thanksgiving was
held in 1623 after a long period of near
starvation. Our ancestors finally achieved
a good harvest, by hard work and enormous
initiative meenmtv and ner?;i<;t
ence. These qualities were originally
necessary for survival?to keep the family
together. Now. in the 20th century, we
realize that they are just as necessary as
they were in the year when the pilgrims
shared maize with the Indians.
