Clinton Mills employees have once again
responded enthusiastically to the Greater
Clinton United Way appeal.
As the Clothmaker went to press, Clinton
employees had given or pledged $20,764.
This represented 20% of the organization's
$108,711.00 goal.
In the 1980-81 campaign Clinton employees
contributed $21,060 towards the
$96,828 goal. This represented 22% of the
amount raised.
Anyone who has not already made a contribution
or pledge should contact the respective
departmental United Way solicitor.
Clinton Mills employee contributions play
an important role in supporting the many
organizations which comprise the United
Way.

Approximately 400 runners, most representing
the leading textile employers across
the state, participated in the South Carolina
Textile Manufacturer's Association's textile
10,000 meter road race held in Clinton on
October 17.
Gene Simmons, Executive Director of the
Clinton Family YMCA, supervised the race
for the Association.
Mack Parsons served as Chairman of the
Textile Association's Textile Run Committee.
and co-ordinator of Health and Safety,
Sonny King presented the awards to winners
in the various groups. David Brown of Clinton's
Data Processing Department assisted
the YMCA in computing the award winners'
times.
Runners took part in running races that
included a one-mile fun run, a 3.1 (five
kilometer) race and a 10K, 6.2 mile race.
Several local runners did extremely well in
the running events. Laurens' Joe Koon
placed third overall and second in the 22-29
group in the 3.1 mile race.
Larry Hanson finished first overall and in
the 22-29 group with a 17:21 time. Following
him was Anthony Williams, the top
finisher in the 17-21 age group, who had a
17:25 time. Koon finished third?just four
seconds out of second place?with a 17:29
time.
In the women's 3.1 mile race, Susan
Gailey finished first in the 22-29 age group
and sixth overall while two Clinton High sturlpntc

finished first and second, respectively in the
17-21 age group.
In the 6.2-mile race (1 Ok). Clemson student
Terry Goodenaugh won both the 22-29
age group and the overall group with a record
time of 30:44.
Clinton native Kenny Mann won the 1316
age group and Laurens native Sonny
Hembree finished 19th in the hotly contested
30-39 age group.
Runners were divided into seven different
age groups as 362 runners registered tor the
event that was held around the Presbyterian
College campus.
