South Carolina are expected to participate in
the South Carolina Textile Manufacturer's
Association's fourth annual textile 10,000
meter race on Oct. 1 7.
Sponsored by SCTMA in cooperation with
the South Carolina Department of Physical
Fitness and the Clinton Family YMCA. the
race will be run on a well marked course

"I'm going to night school at Piedmont
Tech studying Industrial Electronics Technology,"
says Richard Patterson, a Lydia
Electrician. "Twoyearsago I cametoworkat
Lydia and it's almost unbelievable the
amount of changes that have taken place
here. Just look in the new card room and
think about all the new controls and systems
involved in this project.
"I've learned that I have got to broaden my
interests and abilities in my job. The company
has sent me to school to learn how the
controls on some of the new equipment operate.
but there's still quite a lot to learn and
do."
A 1978 graduate of Clinton High School.
Patterson is the son of Mary and Ernest Patterson.

"A few months ago. I made up my mind
that if I was eome to stav in the textile mhnQ
try, I had to prepare for the future. That's
why I'm enrolled in Piedmont Tech's Industrial
Electronics Technology course.
"The equipment in manufacturing areas
has become more and more complicated
and a technician has to keep improving himself
if he does a good job," Hampton says.
When completed, Hampton will have
spent almost three years in classroom, laboratory,
and field training to earn his Associate
degree. A graduate of Clinton High, Hampton
is a Plant No. 2 shop employee. His
father, Harold Hampton, is a General Services
employee and his mother, Kathryn, is
retired from Lydia Weaving.
