Several years ago, Margie
Brewer, a Bailey Plant spinner,
took some colorful fabric,
and a scrap piece of lace,
and a dime store doll and
fashioned it into a doll that
would be desired by almost
any young child.
Today, Margie spends
hours each week turning out
dolls for sale, donating to
Church groups, or sharing
with her friends.
"A good doll, well dressed
sells for $10," says Margie.
"They are in big demand,
but I just don't have enough
time to mass produce them."
"It takes almost two yards
of narrow fabric to make a
cushion, dress, and othpr
items for a doll," she added.
"After everything is completed,
then I add lace and
other ornaments to make the
creations more attractive."
Sewing has always taken
up mrifcft of Margie's time,
and now this type of sewing
has been competing with her
regular sewing.

Dolls
"Much of the doll clothing
is hand sewn, thus adding to
the amount of time required
to complete a doll, but I
can usually move about five
a week if I stay with it," she
continued.
A long time textile employee,
Margie came to Clinton
Mills 35 years ago, but
quit for a short while.
"Since I came back," she
noted, "I've learned to spin,
spool, assist the overhaulers,
and do almost everything
else in the spinning room."
