Reid Con SheWor Several years ago, Margie Brewer, a Bailey Plant spinner, took some colorful fabric, and a scrap piece of lace, and a dime store doll and fashioned it into a doll that would be desired by almost any young child. Today, Margie spends hours each week turning out dolls for sale, donating to Church groups, or sharing with her friends. "A good doll, well dressed sells for $10," says Margie. "They are in big demand, but I just don't have enough time to mass produce them." "It takes almost two yards of narrow fabric to make a cushion, dress, and othpr items for a doll," she added. "After everything is completed, then I add lace and other ornaments to make the creations more attractive." Dolls "Much of the doll clothing is hand sewn, thus adding to the amount of time required to complete a doll, but I can usually move about five a week if I stay with it," she continued. A long time textile employee, Margie came to Clinton Mills 35 years ago, but quit for a short while.
