doesn't surprise Whitman.
"I've coached him for four
years, so I know exactly
what he was capable of
doing."
"He's interested in the
game." explained Whitman,
"and he pays attention to
what you teach him."
"His size also helps him,
too. A 12 year old that's
already 5 ft. 4 in. and well
developed physically has an
advantage," added Whitman.
Bennie's grandparents are

His parents are Mr. and

Letters To The Pi
Boys State Re|
Appreciates 0
Dear Mr. Vance:
I would like to thank you
and Clinton Mills for sponsoring
me to the week of fun
and serious learning at the
1977 encampment of Palmetto
Boys' State. This
week will be special to me
for the rest of my life. I met
boys from all parts of South
Carolina who will probably
be the leaders of the country
tomorrow.
I had the pleasure of
listening to speakers such as
the Honorable Senator
Strom Thurmond, the

Honorable Senator Ernest
Hollings, the Honorable
Governor James B. Edwards,
and many others.
The most important thing
tnai l learned was to take
pride in my government and
my responsibility to exercise
all rights as a citizen, especially
voting.
Senator Thurmond told us
that there were three types
of people, the ones who sit
on the sidelines and do not
care what is going on, the
people who scatch their head
and wonder why things happen
as they do, and the
person who actually gets
involved. My ambition is to
be like the third person,
because he is the one who
shows leadership and promise.
I would like to say thank
you again. It really makes
me proud that Clinton Mills
cares about her community.
