Time Capsule
Clinton Mills was recently
selected by Piedmont Technical
College to participate
in the school's Time Capsule
Project. The time capsule is
designed to preserve articles
indicative of this area for
future generations.
Items placed into the
capsule will be examined
when the rontsiner is nneneH
in 100 years.
Forwarded to Tech was a
piece of Clinton's 48" 78 x 78
3.45 carded cotton print
cloth.
This particular piece of
fabric is sold to the
converting and apparel
trade.

Selected
I>ee Tumblin, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Tumblin,
has been selected to participate
in the 1976 Governor's
School of South Carolina to
be held at The College of
Charleston later this
summer.
I^ee was one of approximately
700 students throughout
South Carolina competing
for the 260 .available
places.
The selection committee
was composed of directors of
f.nvprnnr's SrhnnU in
Virginia, North Carolina,
and Georgia.
The scholar, a rising
senior at Clinton High
School, is a member of the
Beta Club, National Honor
Society, and will be assistant
literary editor of the
Clintonian this fall.
She is also an assistant
pianist at Calvary Baptist
Church and a member of the
Campfires.

O'Shields have been named
Bailey Scholars for 1976.
Susan is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Simmons
and David is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. David O'Shields,
both Bailey Plant employees.
Susan's mother,
Martha, is a Clinton Mills
secretary.
Both students were pre
sented $5,000 Mercer Silas
Bailey Scholarships during
Clinton High Schools Awards
Day exercises.
Clinton Mills Vice President
and Treasurer, Thad
Williams, outlined the Bailey
Foundation's basic philosophy
in supporting educational
assistance programs.
"We who are involved in
the Foundation's activities
are mindful of the role
education has played, and
must continue to play, in the
development of our Nation
and its people. We believe
that education produces
enlightenment and that when
we as a people become more
enlightened, our goals of

The M.S. Bailey Scholarship
Program was established
in 1956, and since
that time educational funds
totaling more than $300,000

96 students, primarily
attending colleges and
universities throughout
South Carolina. Fifty eight of
these students have now
graduated from college and
27 of them are presently
attending school.
In addition to the two
scholarship grants, the
Foundation also awarded
interest free loans having a
maximum value of $4,400 to
Lou Ann Rogers, Susan
Lawson, Jimmy Miller,
Annette Boyd, Becky
Cooper, Jimmy Webb,
Gladys Joan Nelson and
Dianne Harvey.

He is married to the
I former Marilyn Wilson of
Laurens and they have two
daughters, Kim age 6 and
Meredith age 2.
The Buchanans attend the
Laurens First Presbyterian
Church where he serves as a
deacon.
