m CLOTHMAKER 1972 M. S. Bail. Program 0 ELIGIBILITY To be eligible an applicant: ^ a. Must be an employee of Clinton Mills or M. S. Bailey & Son, Bankers, with at least two years of continuous service at the time application is made and must have graduated from high school within two years immediately prior to his application, or b. Must be the son or daughter of an active, or retired employee (other than an elected official) of Clinton 0 Mills or M. S. Bailey & Son Bankers, who has completed two years continuous service at the time application is made. Sons and daughters of employees must permanently reside with the employee parent. No applicant who is already attendtending college will be considered eligible. Applications must be filed with the Bailey Foundation by April 15 of the student's senior year, on forms pre0 scribed by the Bailey Foundation. Employee applicants must also file by April 15 of the year they plan to enter college. SCHOLASTIC REQUIREMENTS Applicant must graduate from a high school accredited by the State of South Carolina Department of Education, with a scholastic standing in the upper one-third of his class; and, in addition, applicant must have pursued a college 0[ preparatory curriculum. All applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of the College Entrance Examination Board prior to making application, whether required by the college of his choice or not. Applicants must have an average score of 300 or above on SAT; that is, a total of 600 on combined score for Verbal and Math Tests. A -.1 1? RENEWAL AND CONTINUATION Scholarships are renewable and continuable subject to the following: Scholarship awardees must maintain a grade point ratio satisfactory to his college for graduation within the regular specified time for the degree ey Scholarship Outlined he is pursuing, and to the Scholarship Committee of the Bailey Foundation. If a student has not satisfactorily completed his courses in the regular school term he must make the courses up in summer school or extra sessions at his own expense before he is eligible for renewal of scholarship. A scholarship award will be with H CAMPBELL COMPLET1 fifty years ago, a 14-year-old boy came to work for Clinton Mills. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Grange Campbell began his textile career with Clinton Mills in January of 1922. He has never worked anywhere except for Clinton Mills. Campbell, who is known as Toby by almost everyone. vividly recalls the early days when he worked sixty hours a week carrying quills from the weave room. "I was paid $9.17 a week, and I thought that was a great deal of money in those days." stated Campbell. He worked on numerous spare jobs until he was transferred into the supply room in 1930. He recalls the many expansions within the plants, and the continuous improvements in working conditions and employee benefits. Toby has worked under at least ten superintendents, countless numbers of 3 drawn if the original eligibility status changes during the period of the award except that the award may be continued for the balance of the school year during which such change in status occurs. The scholarship award will be withdrawn if the personal conduct of the student becomes unsatisfactory to The Bailey Foundation. MH 2S 50 YEARS SERVICE overseers, and all four presidents ? M. S.. W. That makes you real close to a company." Toby has two sons and both of them are Clinton Mills employees. Silas is assistant master mechanic, and Terry is a weave room overhauler. Toby is active in Calvary Baptist Church where he is Secretary and Treasurer of the Marlowe Bible Clnc<? He. and his wife, Beatrice, live on 110 Florence Street. Clinton Mills has five employees who have completed fifty or more years service with the company. Three are still active and two are retired. Other 50 year employees, in addition to Campbell, are Ila Kernells, Plant No. 2 Spooling, and Vesta Eubanks, also a Plant No. 2 emDlovee who i? nm*. rently on leave. Will and Enoch Little completed 50 years prior to their retirement several years ago.
