"Do It - Yourse
Except in a few rural
areas, the days of selfdoctoring
are gone. But
rural remedies aren't the
only form of ''do-it-yourself"
medicine that causes
more illness than it cures.
Some people have a way of
peering into the medicine
cabinet; selecting something
with an appealing color,
shape, or odor; and taking
a dose. That can put an end
not only to the illness but
to the patient. Old medicines
should be destroyed.
Another way of doing
something wrong about
medical treatment is to
confuse the local druggist
with your doctor. The

druggist has a large variety
of patent medicines that
can momentarily soothe
your cough, your ache, or
whatever. But he hasn't
the medical knowledge that
would enable him to prescribe
adequate medication.
Bona tide treatment calls
for treatment bv a qualified
physician.
Another self- treatment
habit common now is the
taking of "nerve pills."
This habit often leads to
gradually increased doses
up to and boyond the danger
point. Self medication
is no laughing matter. It's
bad for the health and can
endanger life.
