Laney Named All-Southern Gary Laney, Bailey Scholarship Student, has been named to the second team on the All-Southern Conference baseball selection. Laney, a sophomore at Furman University, is the son of Jesse and Clyde Laney, Clinton. He hit .382 this Spring for the Paladins. His .703 batting average set as a Senior at C.H.S. is the school record. Laney is the second Bailey Scholar to be named to the All-Southern baseball team at Furman. "Phil" King, son of Hall and Ruth King, Lydia, received the honor in 1964. King, a third baseman, Captained the '65 Furman team. Both Clinton Mills' sons received their early training in the youth baseball programs. BOYS' STATERS RETURN Clinton Mills - sponsored Boys' State Delegates, Rickey Rogers and David Ramaee have returned home from the 25th Palmetto Boys' State meeting held at the Citadel campus June 2-8. The 575 delegates of rising high school seniors, elected a Governor and other state - wide officers aboard a special train enroute from Charleston to Columbia. Governor Robert E. McNair addressed the delegates on their arrival at the State House. On return to Charleston, Rep. L. Mendel Rivers, D-S. C., spoke at special exercises at the Citadel Armory. U. S. As Seniors they were the first brothers, ever to serve as President of the Student Body and President of the Senior Class in the same year. Steve, the younger brother, distinguished himself both as a student and as an athlete. The National Honor Society presented him a plaque in recognition and appreciation for his unselfish devotion to the school. He plans to enter Western Carolina at Cullowee. N. C. this Fall. "Butch," was the Senior Class's choice for President and the superlative of "Most Popular." He plans to enter the Marine Corps, later this summer. School Principal Wilmot Shealy cited the achievements of the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Grady, Lydia, as "Outstanding in every respect." CARROLL BARKER GRADUATES ? Carroll Barker graduated from Columbia Commercial College on May 30. While attending Columbia Commercial, he was an active member of Chi Psi fraternity, serving as secretarytreasurer. He also was a memoer of the newspaper staff. Carroll was a 1966 graduate of Clinton High School, where he played football for 4 years and was a member of the Block C Club, Transportation Club, Key Club, and was selected a Senior Superlative. He is a member of Campbell Lodge 44 A. F. M. and a Shriner. Carroll, a Clinton No. 2 employee, is hopeful of continuing his education this fall. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs M n rp ol 1 Barker.
