Laney Named
All-Southern
Gary Laney, Bailey
Scholarship Student, has
been named to the second
team on the All-Southern
Conference baseball selection.
Laney, a sophomore at
Furman University, is the
son of Jesse and Clyde
Laney, Clinton. He hit .382
this Spring for the Paladins.
His .703 batting average
set as a Senior at
C.H.S. is the school record.
Laney is the second
Bailey Scholar to be named
to the All-Southern baseball
team at Furman.
"Phil" King, son of Hall
and Ruth King, Lydia, received
the honor in 1964.
King, a third baseman,
Captained the '65 Furman
team.
Both Clinton Mills' sons
received their early training
in the youth baseball
programs.

home from the 25th Palmetto
Boys' State meeting
held at the Citadel campus
June 2-8.
The 575 delegates of rising
high school seniors,
elected a Governor and
other state - wide officers
aboard a special train enroute
from Charleston to
Columbia. Governor Robert
E. McNair addressed the
delegates on their arrival at
the State House. On return
to Charleston, Rep. L. Mendel
Rivers, D-S. C., spoke at
special exercises at the
Citadel Armory.

Steve, the younger brother,
distinguished himself
both as a student and as an

to enter the Marine Corps,

Barker graduated from

he was an active

graduate of Clinton High
School, where he played
football for 4 years and was
a member of the Block C
Club, Transportation Club,
Key Club, and was selected
a Senior Superlative. He is

Lodge 44 A. F. M. and a

No. 2 employee, is hopeful
of continuing his education
