Plant Trees Aglow
Large cedar Christmas trees
burn brightly on the Mills'
lawns. The beautifully lighted
trees, conveying Best Wishes
For A Merry Christmas to all
employees and their families,
vvere cut locally by Mr. Glenn
Downs and his men. Machine
Shop personnel at the mills
lighted the trees.
Unfortunately the Clothmaker's
camera cannot capture
the beauty of the multicolored
lights for our many
out-of-town readers. We invite
you to drive bv to see the
trees as many area residents
are doing.
Christmas Seal
Has Dual Design
The 1965 Christmas Seal is
a dual design, by artist Frede
Salomonsen, which he calls,
"Kernels of Life."
Inspired by the thought of
"man's desire and obligation
to help his stricken fellowman,"
the designer created a
charming little girl and a
beautiful evergreen. Dressed
in a bright red scarf and
green mittens, the little girl
holds a basket of grain as she
kneels to feed the hungry
birds in wintertime. An evergreen
tree in ornamental
splendor invites the birds to
rest and shelter from the cold.
Each depicts the good will and
gladness of the holiday season.
Mr. Salomonsen was born
in nnnpnhadon o n m o r lr

where the Christmas Seal
originated. As a boy, he contracted
tuberculosis and spent
two years recovering from the
disease.
Having earned his living as
a commercial artist since he
was sixteen years old, Mr.
Salomonsen came to the
United States in August, 1946.
He joined the art department
of Brown & Bigelow of Saint
Paul where he is still employed
as a creative designer
and illustrator. He is married
and has two children.
His 1965 Seal design, "Kernels
of Life," is his artistic
expression of the belief that
Christmas Seals provide a
priceless opportunity for everyone
to take part in the
effort to eradicate tuberculosis
