FLU IS DUE- SOME T1
Like the old gentleman who 1
cnose noi 10 join tne income 1
tax." now is the time for all 1
good men, women and chil- i
dren to decide not to join the r
flu outbreak. c
What flu outbreak? How
do you stay out of it? One
question at a time:
Flu this winter? The U. S.
Public Health Service says
probably yes. The disease
strikes every two to three
years; this is the year when
Type A primarily is due. But
a certain amount of Type B is
looked for, too.
What's it like? Some influenza
symptoms are like
those of the common cold,
only more so. Sore throat,
nasal congestion, dry cough,
chills, fever, muscular aches
and pains, general weakness.
Temperature rises quickly.
How serious? Most people
recover within a week. But
sometimes pneumonia develops.
Other possible compli
tdiiuns: oroncmtis, sinus
trouble, ear infection.
What to do? Call a doctor.
Stay in bed as long as he tells
you to. Don't expect miracles
with "wonder drugs" ? they
don't work against most
viruses, and flu is a virus
disease. Aspirin and lots of
fluids mav be prescribed.
Prevention? A vaccine that's
useful against both general

SAFETY CONFERENCE
Calvin A. Cooper, J. R.
Reynolds, and Glen r,a?Hnc
will be delegates at the 53rd
National Safety Congress and
Exposition in Chicago, October
25-28.
Since 1912, "The Congress,"
as it is called, has been the
biggest, most important safety
event in the nation.
The national meeting on all
aspects and phases of safety
draws between ten and twelve
thousand people to Chicago
for four days of meetings, reports,
special events, and the
world's largest exhibit of
safety devices of all types.
Clinton Mills has sent delepates
to "The Congress" since
1951. The trips have proven
stimulating and rewarding.
Especially beneficial is the
Exposition. It is an educational
and idea-provoking experience
to be brought abreast
with the latest products and
devices designed to help pre- 1
vent accidents and save lives.
Many ideas learned by 1
Company delegates to "The
Congress" in previous years
have been adopted into our
plants' Accident Prevention
Programs.
