4 WEAVING & SLASHING 1ST SHIFT by Dewel Proffitt Mrs. James Wells visited her mother in a Columbia hospital recently. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown and son of Greenwood visited Mrs. Brown's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Boyce Lawson, a recent week end. Mrs. Dewel Proffitt and Mrs. Ruth Satterfield were visitors in Greenwood a recent Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Campbell and children of Charlotte and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oxner and children of Aiken are to be guests of their mother, Mrs. Ruth Oxner, during the holidays. Mrs. James Wells has returned home after having treatment at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neal spent a recent Sunday with their son in Hickory. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Proffitt and Gary attended the birthday dinner of Mrs. Florence Ervin of North Augusta at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Furman Brown in Laurens on December 8. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neal visited relatives in Salem a recent week end. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Riser visited Mr. and Mrs. Jodie Gambelle in Waterloo recently. Since I don't care for the word in-law I will say daughter, the former Miss Judy Laney. Judy and Tony were married November 15. Heaton recently visited her brother in Pelzer who is critically ill. Mrs. Ruby Burden visited her sister who is seriously ill in Dallas, N. C. Mrs. Blanche Rochester recently visited with her sister in Belton and her mother in Woodruff. ; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Martin took a trip to the mountains and to Marietta, S. C. to visit her brother. Mrs. Blanche Rochester is expecting her two-year-old niece for a visit. Blanche says ' she hopes that she can keep her during Christmas. Johnny Holder had a birthday December 23. We're all sorry that Mrs. Gertrude Holbert is sick. Hope she will soon be well and back with us. Mrs. Eugene Reynolds and her sister, Annie Faye Melton, went shopping in Spartanburg last Saturday. Glad to have "Lib" Holder with us on the second shift. SPINNING NO. 2 3RD SHIFT by Jeanette Starnes Mr. William Samples enjoyed a trip to Houston, Texas. He said the country was beautiful for someone who could travel all the time. Judy Lever and Mrs. Ethel Lever enjoyed a shopping trip to Greenville. Well, it seems no one went anywhere so we haven't much to say. We would like to thank Clinton Cotton Mills for our fruit and most of all, our vacation. Hope everyone is able to be back on their job. Hall, in Johnston recently. i I I^L ill Damon Smokey Wallenzine, age 7. is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wallenzine and Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Mitchell. Yes Virginia Has Become Classic One day in 1897, a little girl with a big problem sat down and wrote a letter that was to make her name famous. The little girl was Virginia O'Hanlon ? her problem, was there really a Santa Claus? On the advice of her father, she wrote a letter to the New York Sun, and the answer she received was destined to bec o m e a beloved Christmas classic. She wrote, "Dear Editor?I am eight years old. Some of my friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, 'If you see it in the Sun, it's so'. Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?" The New York Sun's Francis P. Church, replied with an editorial that not only answered the question of a little 8year-old girl but that warmed the hearts of young and old alike. Since it was written 66 years ago, his editorial has been printed and reprinted in newspapers throughout the country, and read and re-read to children at Christmastime. The most famous paragraph in this editorial read, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Mr. Church concluded his editorial with words that have echoed down the years to thrill the hearts of all who hear. "No Santa Claus! Thank God, he lives and he lives forever! A thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the hearts of childhood." A Christmas Prayer Let us pray that strength and courage abundant be given to all who work for a world of reason and understanding; that the good that lies in every man's heart may day by day be magnified; that men will come to see more clearly not that which divides them, but that which unites them; that each hour may bring us closer to a final victory, not of nation over nation, but of man over his own evils and weaknesses; that the true spirit of this Christmas Season ? its joy, its beauty, its hope, and above all its abiding faith ? may live among us; that the blessings of peace be ours ? the peace to build and grow, to live in harmony and sympathy with others, and to plan for the future with confidence. 1 wul Ricky Farmer, 4 months, and Tony Farmer, Aqe 5, are the grandsons of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Farmer.
