Can You Prove
You Were Born?
It is estimated that about 50
million people in this country
can't prove they were born because
their birth certificates
were never filed or their birth
records may have been destroyed
by fire, flood or other
disasters.
If you are one of the 50 million.
you may have difficulty
when it comes time to apply
for Social Security, marriage
license, or in other cases
where proof of birth must be
established.
WRITE FOR COPY?
If you've lost or mislaid
your birth certificate, a duplicate
usually can be obtained
by writing to the health office
in the town where you were
born. In most cases, however,
such a request should be addressed
to the Bureau of Vital
Statistics, Columbia, S. C., or
the capital in the state where
you were born, if not in South
Carolina. A nominal fee is
generally charged for such service.
But what if there's no birth
record on file? What can you
use to prove your birth? In
some cases, a baptismal certificate
will be sufficient proof
if vou were baptized as a child.
DELAYED CERTIFICATE?
It is also possible to be issued
a "delayed" birth certificate.
Hospital records of your
birth, an affidavit from a physician
or midwife, or sworn
statements from 2 persons who
were at least 18 years old
when vou were born and re
member it are usually sufficient
to get a "delayed" birth
certificate.
Space doesn't permit the
Clothmaker telling the complete
story of each employee's
vacation trip but we can and
would like to run photographs
and brief accounts of as many
as possible.
Be sure to carry your camera
and bring back some good
pictures so we can print them
in the July issue. Your fellow
employees and friends
want you to share your vacation
experiences with them.
Please tell the Clothmaker reporter
in your department
about your vacation at home
or away.
