MAY. 1963 WEAVING NO. 1 1ST SHIFT By - Alta Riser Mrs. Ruth Satter field, mother of Dowel Proffitt, is a patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. Ina Belle Hooper spent the week end in Anderson with her sister, Mrs. Corene Hanks. Mr. and Mrs. George W. Campbell of Charlotte, N. C.. visited Mrs. Campbell's mother. Mrs. Ruth Oxner, recently. Friends of Mrs. J. E. Wells will be glad to hear that she is improving at her home after surgery at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood. Virgil Webb is back after being out with a broken toe. Herbert Hughes is all smiles these days since he heard his little granddaughter will be home the first of June. Edith Neal and your reporter went shopping in Greenville Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. M a r c e 11 e Barker and Carrol spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Spurlock in Charleston. S. C. Mrs. D. G. Jackson and Miss Minnie Hughes of Columbia visitea Mr. and Mrs. bill Terry recently. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Lyons of Waterloo, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Riser and Miss Fave Coleman of Greenwood were Sunday guests of the Leo Risers. "1 Mrs. Mabel Butler and children are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Walter McAlister. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Barker visited their daughter and sonin-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Suttles, in Durham, N. C. Mrs. Tommy Lanford was honored with a birthday dinner recently at Lake Greenwood. Little Laurie Pcnland of Laurens spent a week end recently with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Meadors. Cecil Wooten and Earl Braswell spent the first Saturday off down at Earl's cabin, doing just a little work and relaxing. Your reporter (Grace) accompanied her daughter-inlaw. Mrs. Bobby (Pat) Wooten and children to Ninety Six to visit Pat's mother, Mrs. O. L. Godfrey, who is ill. Our first Saturday off Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Leopard went to Spartanburg to see the wrestling matches that didn't come off. (There was no wrestling.) Mr. and Mrs. George Price. Mrs. Ella Harvey and Mrs. Henderson attended the funeral of Mrs. Harvey's niece. Mrs. Freddie Emory, in Laurens. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Turner and daughter, Mrs. Claude Berry, of Ninety Six visited Mr. and Mis. George Pr . Mis. C. E. Leopard and daughter, Sandy, went shopping in Spartanburg on a recent Saturday afternoon and attended the all night singing at the Memorial Auditorium. Mrs. Thornton Meadors, Mrs. Evans Lever and Judy attended the singing also. S.P/5 James R. Wooten is at home on an emergency leave from Fort Leonard Wood. Missouri. His wife Margaret is a surgical patient at Bailey Memorial Hospital. We all hope she will have a speedy recovery. l.1. tJiuy wnson and Mrs. Guy noil Wilson, sister of Gladys Hughes, arrived in states April 20 having been in Japan for five years. Maudine Rowe got a suntan at Lake Murray. Cecil' been catching a lot of fish. William S. just goes to see that the fish don't starve. Jess R. said he was going to keep his news to himself. Pore' Charlie got a couple of ribs cracked while wrestling a bear (Elmo). Ha! We missed Bill Gooch last week. Glad you're back. Bill. Speaking of looking good, have you noticed Sis S.'s and Maudine R.'s new hairdo's? Sis has been jamming it up with a bunch of strawberries. She's got oodles of pint jars filled. Well. Handback graduated from Georgia Military College May 27. He was named on the merit list for last quarter, plans to continue his education at the University of Georgia. Ned is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Handback. grove visited Mrs. S. D. Snelgrove in Saluda County going especially for Mother's Day. Mr. and Mrs. Noah Scott celebrated their birthdays on May 25 and May 6 respectively. They reported an enjoyable celebration. Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Crawford visited their daughters in Newberry recently. They went especially to attend Mrs. Crawford's 50th birthday dinner. Receives Educational Certificate L inda Tiller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Tiller, Clinton No. 2 Overseer of Weaving, was presented a Certificate of Educational Development in special exercises at Newberry High school May 13th. Linda was recognized for her outstanding performance on the Spring. 1963 National Educational Development given throughout the United States by Science Research Associates. J. V. Kneece. school principal. commented with pride that South Carolina student scores on the test were 10 per cent higher than the national average. Robin, age 7, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Snelgrove.
