Social Security
Question: I read that the
new law lets people qualify
for retirement checks on less
w ork under social security.
How much time under social
security does a woman need
to qualify if she will be 62 in
1962? Also, what about a man
who will be 62 in 1963?
A A
nnswer: t\ woman reaching
age 62 in 1962 can qualify
with as little as 11 social
security credits, which
amounts to about 2 2-4 years
of work. A man reaching age
62 in 1962 can qualify with
15 credits, or 2 2-4 years of
work under social security.
This does not have to be consecutive,
and covered work as
far back as 1927 still counts.
Question: I am 62 and want
to claim benefits, as I understand
the new law lets men
draw at that age. The trouble
is that I have no birth certificate.
Is there any way I
. 1 A - i
tuuiu ,m_-i mv social securny
without one?
Answer: Yes. There is no
requirement that you must
have a birth certificate to get
benefits. But we do have to
have some proof of your age.
A person's age can be estalished
for social security purposes
in many ways. You
probably have some paper or
document at home that will
work. There is no need to delay
applying for the benefit
because y o u can't locate
proof. Come in and discuss
your case with us.
