DIAN
Twenty three boys and three
adult leaders spent the week
of August 5-11 at Camp Old
Indian. The boys learned a
lots about scouting skills and r
enjoyed the different events
they participated in at camp. I
They checked into camp on
Sunday at 2 P. M., but ac- I
tivities didn't get underway
until Monday morning. Reveilee
was at 7 o'clock each
morning followed by breakfast
at 7:30. They had inspection
each morning at 8:30 and
assembled at the flag pole at
9:00 A. M. and were directed
to the different classes. They
had 3 hour-long classes each
morning and had dinner at
12:15 P.M. After dinner they
had an hour in which to rest
and classes started back at 2
P. M. and lasted until 5 P. M.
Then came supper at 5:45.

games and ghost stories.
There was a canteen in which i
the boys could get cold drinks
and candy but were allowed
only one drink and one piece
of candy.
Lights were out at 9:30 P.
M. each night and the boys
went to sleep soon afterwards.
Wednesday afternoon was
visitor's day and a large

area were on hand to
see the different events that
took place. The water events
were held first and Clinton
and Lydia troops were combined
and won the mile relay
race. Francis Cooper and
Harvey Shumate from Lydia
and Billy Butler and Darrell
Hampton from Clinton were
the swimmers in this event.
In the free style race for
speed Charles Steele of Clinton
placed 3rd.

were over the field events
were held and in the 100
yard dash race Johnny Thibadeau
of Clinton came in

placed 2nd. Mike Campbell
and Len Evans of Lydia and
Johnny Thibadeau and Cecil
Steele of Clinton were t h e
participants in this event.
Wednesday night all the
parents and boys enjoyed
some old Indian dances and
snake dances and heard some
real old Indian stories from
Mr. L. L. Stanley. Scout Executive
from the Blue Ridge
Council.
On Friday morning all the
scouts at Camp Old Indian
went on a 5 mile hike up
Glassy Mountain. They left
at 9:00 A. M. and stopped at
12 o'clock for lunch, which

and then continued on. Thov
arrived back at camp at 3
P. M. and the bus was waiting
for them to come bacl to
Clinton.
Roys who advanced while
at Camp were Darrell Hampton
and Johnny Thibadeau of
Troop No. 138, who passed all
requirements for a Second
class scout and Charles Steele
