STATE DELEGA
Clinton and Lydia's Precinct
Presidents were elected
by the Laurens County Dem- ?
ocratic Convention as delegates
to the State Democratic
Convention to be held March
25th at the Township Auditorium
in Columbia.
IMPORTANT POST
Each county in South Carolina
is entitled to twice as
many delegates to the State
Convention as it has members
in the General Assembly.
(Laurens County has one sen
aior and three house mem- I
bers) The County Convention
elected to send sixteen delegates
with xh. vote each. With
this policy followed throughout
the state, there will be
680 delegates present to decide
on various policy matters
and to elect a new State
Chairman and a new State
Executive Committeman.
PRECINCT MEETINGS
Of recent, renewed interest
has been shown at both mills
in precinct meetings. Each
precinct (the place where you
vote) holds a meeting and
elects officers and delegates to
the county convention and
transacts such other business "
as is proper for a precinct to
h o n 1 n Ci w?U " ?
>i u ii u i ^ . oui.ii uusuie?s includes
resolutions from the
local precinct to be carried to
the county convention and
from there on to the state I
convention.
The important thing about f
a precinct meeting is that ?
every eligible voter has not a
only the right but a standing s
invitation to attend. Here any s
individual may be heard. He J
or she can have their say, s
whereas when the proceed- ri
ings move on up to the county c
level only the elected dele- r
gates may be heard in con- 1
vention. 1
Incidentally, the precinct I
meeting is the place not only s
to introduce resolutions but
to oppose any that you do not F
approve, which is frequently F
done. But at any rate, it is i<
democracy at work. And it J
will work only as well as we 1
make it work. -1
