JANUARY, 1957 WEAVING 1ST SHIFT By Sarah Jenkins Hello, Everyone. Christmas has come and gone and we are starting on a brand new year. Let's try to make it a safe, happy and prosperous one. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walker and children visited Miss Effie Walker in Greenville recently. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Shumate, Jr. and children and Mrs. Mat tie Harvey had dinner in Charlotte on Christmas Day. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Butch McLendon during the holidays were the Walker Satterfields and children of West Clinton; Mrs. M. F. Snoon. Durant Snonn and Mrs. Kinnard Walker of Mt. Vernon. Ga. Epp's Eating Place in Greenville was the scene of much fun and gaiety when the Supervisors of Weave Rooms 1, 2. and .'1 with their wives held their Christmas Party on Dec. 22. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gallman, Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Lark, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gauble. Mr. and Mrs. Furman Bratcher. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Edge, Mr. and Mrs. Parley Culpepper, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Gaffnev, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Choss Kmc In vited guests were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Gaskins and Mrs. Claude Gilstrap. Corsages were pinned on the ladies by Mr. Gaskins and music was furnished by a "local quartet." Another enjoyable part y was the one at uie home of Vivian M?ve in Laurens for the "girls' of Weave Room No. 2. Among those attending were Kat Kampton. Lucile Dunaway, Edna Corlev, Annie Zogg. Eleanor Fuller, Cornelia Burdett e, Betty ,'ean Gallman and Elouise Bratcher. Delicious refreshments of spiced tea and fruit cake were served bv the hostess. The Milton Milams spent Christmas with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Chandler in Augusta, Ga. The Chandler children returned home with their grandparents for a few days visit. Misses Louise and Mary Sue Holmes, with their father. J. H. Holmes of Cross Anchor, spent Christmas Day with their sister and daughter. Mrs. Frances Meeks and children. Mr. and Mrs. Do n al d Boozer and little son, Butch, spent the holidays with the former's parents, the Ray Boozers. H Mr. and Mrs. Ira Bailey and children visited the hitter's mother, Mrs. B. T. Bagley in Sylacauga, Ala., during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Poole celebrated their 19th wed ding anniversary on Dec. 16th. Miss Sally Knight, who is attending Trevecca Bible College in Nashville. Tenn., spent the holidays with her mother. Mrs. Evelyn Canaday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Corlev were guests of the latter's sister, Mr. L. II. Fowler and Mrs. Harry Rhodes in Greenwood on Christmas Eve. Sandy, Norma Jean, and Paula Shelnut spent Christmas with their mother. Mrs. Floyd Belue. Our deepest sympathy to Paul Ward in the sudden death of his father-in-law. Mr. Fate Fuller. Sr.. on Dec. 30th. Mi*. John Motte also continues very ill at his home. We hope he will soon be better. Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon Todd of Newark. N. J., were recent quests of the S. J. Todds and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Todd. Also quests of the Joe Todds were Mr. and Mrs. Allison Herring and t h c i r daughter. Barbara Jo Todd, who is a student nurse at the Greenville General Hospital. A 3C Jimmy Meeks, who has been spending a 30-dav leave with his mother. Mrs. Frances Meeks, left for Germany Jan. 6th. The Bovce "elan" held their annual Christmas party at THE CLOTHMAKER the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cirover Melnvaille with a large crowd attending. Among these were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Poole and children, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Boyce of Joanna, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Boyce of Columbia, Mr. and Mrs. Emmette Neal and family of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M c I n v a i 1 le and daughter of Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cooper and family of Joanna, Earl and Wallace Boyce, Mrs. J. B. Boyce, Miss Marion McLendon and Miss Peggy Melnvaille. Gifts were exchanged and delightful refreshments were served. b'vt. Douglas DeYoung has returned to La Plata, Maryland, after spending a 14-day leave with his mother, Mrs. Sarah Jenkins. The Jerry Hollands of Allendale spent the Christmas holidays with their mother and sister, Mrs. J. H. Crowe and Mrs. Sarah Jenkins. Birthdays Victoria Culbertson, Jan. 16th. Evelyn Canady. Jan. 13th. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Armstrong of Gastonia, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Armstrong of Hock Hill were holiday guests of the Earl Armstrongs. Mrs. Earl Armstrong and daughter returned home with the Ernest Armstrongs for a weekend visit. Mr. and Mrs. James Stewart and sons and Mr. and Mrs. Lerov West visited Mr. Stewr , vn -v. rJoe Donald is the 9 year old son of the T. M. Donalds. Cypress St., Lydia Mill. art's sister in Tampa, Fla.. recently. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lawton visited the A. M. Foresters during Christmas. Mr. John Bagwell had all of his children as Sunday dinner guests. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McClendon and Cecelia, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Thompson and Jimmy, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Harvey and Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bagwell and Johnny. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Broome had several of their children home for the holidays. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Carson Neil and Dianne and Mr. and Mrs. Howard McCauley. Another daughter. Frances Norwood of Tampa, Fla., was unable to be present and enjoy the exchanging of presents. Mrs. A. B. Bolter visited her sister, Mrs. V. Z. Blackwood of Donna, Texas, and Mrs. Blackwood returned with Mrs. Boiter. Carl Boiter, of Augusta, spent Christmas with his parents, the A. B. Boiters. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Hughes spent Sunday with the Bobby Pierces. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Richey, and Mr. and Mrs. Pete Pierce had Christmas dinner with their parents, the I. N. Pierces. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Campbell and family visited Mr. Campbell's brother in Atlanta recently. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie James visited Mrs. Molly Hughey of Fiedmont recently. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Speake and children of Augusta spent Christmas with the L. A. McCurrys of Cross Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Howard White and son of Gaffnev and Beatrice White visited the Jack Whites during Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gregory attended the Canfield-Bozard wedding at the Pentecostal Holiness Church at Clinton Mill on December 23rd. Joe Aldon. son of the J. C. Richards, has been a patient at the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Franklin and daughter spent Christmas in Columbia and Anderson with relatives. Airman 2 C Ray Jackson spent unristmas with his parents. the Theodore Jacksons. Mrs. Billy Moore has returned home undergoing surgery at the Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood. Mrs. John Atkinson visited her parents in Scottdale. Ga., during Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Lerov Atkinson, who have just returned from Germany. returned with Mrs. Atkinson to spend Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gregory and sons, Mrs. Elise Gregory, Mrs. A. J. Satterfield and Miss Carolyn Young visited Mrs. Etta Poiser in Toccoa, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. B. P. Lark of Carolyn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Frost of Cypress St.. Lydia Mill. Lark, Bobby Johnson, Grady Edge and all weave room supervisors and wives enjoyed a supper at Eppes' eating place in Greenville during Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Edge and daughters had Christmas dinner with Mrs. Edge's mother, Mrs. Carrie Black, in Greer. Grady Edge wishes to express his appreciation to the members of No. 1 Weaving, the Slasher and Tying Rooms for the tackle box and trolling rod that they gave him for Christmas. While we are making our New Year Resolutions let's try to improve our Safety Record and have another Bar B-Q in the near future. Bailey and family, along with Miss Joanne Wigley. spent Christmas holidays with Mrs. Bailey's mother in Goodwater, Ala. Mr. and Mrs. Leke Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Donald and Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Donald visited Mr. and Mrs. William Donald in Woodruff recently. Little Jeanette Mann, daughter of Mrs. Hazel Mann, celebrated her 5th birthday December 31. Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Donald had as their guests Christmas Lve, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Covington and daughter, Joan, of Laurens. Mr. and Mrs. David Mann are proud to announce the arrival of a son at Hays Hospital on December 20th. Mrs. Christell Campbell celebrated her birthday January 4th. (Continued on Page 8) V?
