Wonder why it is that
practically every mill has a
"practical" joker in its midst
and unfortunately this creature
sometimes is found in
every department? We also
wonder who in the world
ever named this character a
"practical" joker when there
is certainly nothing practical
about his operations.
Horseplay in our mills has
been largely eliminated,
mostly because these "practical
jokers" have found that
no one else enjoys or appreciates
their antics. Nevertheless,
there still are a few and
as long as there is one loose
on the mill premises, there is
a big gamble that someone is
going to get hurt or even
killed. In fact, his little joke
may even backfire and the
practical joker may turn out
to be the victim. If this could
he the case all the time, it
would be fine because soon
we would eliminate all of
them. But. too often, it is the
innocent person who falls
prey to his work.
Here are a few "big laffs"
caused bv horseplay recently
in textile mills . . . they
could happen here unless
horseplay is eliminated.

He was rushed to the hospital
where eight inches of his
intestines had to be removed.
Big joke?
Two men were going
through a swinging door from
one department to another
and the practical joker slammed
the door back into the
other fellow's face. All of his
front teeth were knocked out
and had to be replaced with
false ones. Guess they all
had a big laugh out of that
one. or did they?
Then there was another
character who put some sand
down into an air hose, knowing
that several fellows used
it to clean off their clothes,
even though they had been
warned constantly not to.
One did. He had to be hospitalized
a good while, but
now you have to get pretty
close up to see that one of
his eyes is glass, lie doesn't
think it much of a joke, nor
do his friends.
These are not fictitious

are sufficient to remind us of

can result from just a little
