opens next Saturday at Easley.
The time for filing pledges expires
the day before (Friday) at
12 o'clock. Though any pledges
mailed and bearing the post
mark of the mailing office and
stamped before 12 o'clock would
be legal and be allowed; we be
lieve. But we would advise no
prospective candidate to wait to
the last minute and take this
chance. There ar hardly
enough candidates out, so far to
fill the offices. Surely a few
more will offer themselves upon
the altar of their country

appointment of Rev. J. C,
Yongue, in the Pickens Method.

morning and night. On account
of District Conference,
which meets in Greenvilie this
week, embracing Sunday, there
will be no services at the Pickens
Methodist church next Sabbath.
There will be preaching
the following Sunday, D. V.,

Yongue, or some other minister,
equally as good, so he says,
? J. R. C. Griffin, wife and
two children, of Ware Shoals,
are on a visit to the family of
his father, in the Table Mountain
section of tho county. For
several terms Mr. Griffin taught
"hool at the mills of Easley and
a tin ) was in the mercantile
lino there being of the firm of
Wyatt <Sc Griffin. For the past
few years he has been at Ware
Shoals, in the capacity of bookkeeper
for the Company and
agent for .the railroad running
out to that point. John's
friends in this part of the country
are glad to see him and to
know that he is doing well.

?Judge J. A. Peek, of Pickens,
celebrated the 4th bv hieing
himself off to St. Louis on a
combined business and pleasure
trip, and, to quote his words,
1 got all that he went after. W<>
are glad he had such a fine trip
and delightful time, and know,
from his conversation, that he
greatly enjoyed himself.
?On last Friday afternoon,
the 8th instant, Lois, the sixmonths
old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. A. Thomas, of our
town was taken by the grim
monster death. The little one
had been sick for some weeks.
The remains were buried in the
cemetery of Camp Creek church
on the day following its death.
The father and mother have the
sincere sympathy of a host of
friends in their sad .affliction.
?Miss Grace W. Vandiver, of
Spartanburg, will lecture at the
Flat Rock church on the fourth
Sunday in July at 11 o'clock, on
the Cradle Roll Department of
'the Sunday School and also on
