BR00IT1 • CORTinUCD PROR18 February 14th — Alabama — I don’t think USC will beat Alabama. But, since I promised myself I wouldn’t let this column take a turn to Negativetown, anything is possible. If Carolina can beat Florida in Gainesville, they can certainly beat Alabama in Columbia. One positive of this game is that not only is it in Columbia, but it is also going to be televised on ESPN. This could break the record for “most guys trying to secretly watch a Carolina basketball game while not making their girlfriends mad on Valentine’s Day.” February 18th — Kentucky — This is a game that Carolina can win. They should have won at Kentucky if it wasn’t for Patrick Sparks hitting a three from the locker room and Rajon Rondo hitting the luckiest shot since those early 90s commercials where Larry Bird would play it off the backboard, through the rafters, around the corner, and off the Hamburgler’s head for nothing but net. All of that for a Big Mac. February 23rd — at Georgia — Once again, a game the Gamecocks should win. Somehow the first time these two teams met, Levi Stukes got an open look at the game-winning shot despite being the only member of Georgia’s team that can hit a three-pointer. The rest of that team couldn’t hit sand if they fell off a camel in the middle of the desert. This game also gives me a chance to unload the rest of my Dennis Felton (Georgia’s head coach) jokes. For a guy that looks that much like Steve Harvey, he really doesn’t have a sense of humor. February 25th — Vanderbilt — Not only is this another game Carolina should win, but playing Georgia and Vanderbilt back-to-back gives us a chance to decide which huge white guy looks more like a caveman. Is it Georgia’s Dave Bliss or Vanderbilt’s Ted Skuchas? The country hasn’t been this divided since Bush versus Kerry. It should come down to the wire. February 28th — LSU — This game worries me. Not only is Glen Davis one of the better post players in the SEC, but at 310 pounds he looks like he is in the process of digesting Brandon Wallace and Tarence Kinsey. This guy has made sandwiches bigger than Stephen McDowell. He is built like the black Kirstie Alley, only he is 6 foot 9. If Carolina can slow him down, they have a chance. March 4th — at Auburn — Auburn is not good, but they beat Ole Miss (who beat Carolina) by eight. That makes me nervous. But then I remember that they lost to Mississippi State by 18, and everything is back to normal. Auburn is to basketball what Adam Morrison’s mustache is to facial hair - a disgrace. If Carolina doesn’t win enough of their remaining games to make the NCAA tournament, it won’t be because they didn’t have a favorable schedule. So go ahead and make me look stupid. I’m due. BASEBALL • COnTinUED FROIT18 double play with runners on first and second in the bottom of the ninth. USC pitcher Arik Hempy heid Elon hitless through the first four innings on Saturday with both of the Phoenixes’ runs coming unearned. USC will stay at home for a weekend series with Radford beginning Friday. ■ Comments on this story? The Gamecocks have won three consecutive league road games for the first time in more than a decade. women • conunueoFRoms the game out of reach. USC shot 63 percent from the field in the second half and 51 percent for the game. The Gators missed 6 of 7 three-point attempts in the second half and weren’t able to mount a rally. Johnson’s career-best night followed an 18 point performance against Arkansas and a 15-point scoring night against Mississippi State.
