Preston also said older men were harassing female students sitting in the stands. “What it came down to was a safety issue. Visually, you could see there were way more people than the safe number is,” said USC Sports Information Director Steve Fink. Traditionally, there has been a lack of student understanding to the nature of the enforcement. “The lady (distributing tickets) brought my attention to my section number and said they would be enforcing section assignments,” said Karin Gardner, a third-year broadcast journalism student. Brewer said the only ticket checkpoints would be at the portals. “I think the plan is they’re going to check tickets coming in the portal,” Brewer said. Even if students are still allowed to sit where they please, Brewer said they should expect a longer wait to get into the stadium as students search for the correct portal. “It might be wise to let the students know they need to come into the stadium a little earlier, because it will take more time than what they were used to,” Brewer said. The athletics department asked students to have patience. “From an athletics department standpoint, the • student support is tremendous and we appreciate that,” said External Relations Director Kevin O’Connell. “We want to make it so that everyone can enjoy the game.” Comments on this story?
