from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. One
hundred seven employers are
signed up for the Career Blitz.

Career Center is one of only two
university career centers in the
country to feature
OptimalResume, a cutting-edge
system designed to help students
create, manage and present their
resumes. OptimalResume also

marketing presentations of their

The Career Center offers help
on such topics as assessing one’s
Graduate School Competency,
factors to consider when
thinking about graduate school,

visit the Office of Pre
Professional Advising, located in
Sumwalt 208. The Office of
Orientation and Testing
Services, located in suite 345 of
the Russell House, will also be
available to advise students on
the types of tests they need to
take as well as test-registration
deadlines. The testing center
offers the GMAT (business
school), Praxis (education), GRE
(graduate school) and TOEL
(English as a second language)
exams anytime during the school
year.

hospitals, is holding its annual
First Ladies’ Walk for Life ...
Steps Against Breast Cancer
benefit walk Oct. 1.
“The walk is expecting to
draw 10,000 people and is the
largest breast-cancer-awareness
activity in the Midlands,” said
Diane Howard, Palmetto
Health’s public relations
director.
Opening ceremonies at
Finlay Park begin at 8:30 a.m.
with the walk beginning at 9
a.m. The event kicks off
National Breast Cancer
; Awareness Month, and money
raised will go to Palmetto
Health’s South Carolina
Comprehensive Breast Center.
Howard said the centers
“support awareness, education,
patient and family support and
cancer research.”
According to Palmetto
Health’s Web site,
www.palmettohealth.com, “the
mission of the Walk for Life is
to increase awareness in an
effort to combat breast cancer
through education about early
detection. Awareness and
education are key to breast
I health.”
Howard warns the “No. 1
risk factor for the disease is
simply being female.” However,
she pointed out that “men also
get breast cancer, just not at the
rate that women do.”
“This year, there may be
2,800 South Carolinians
(women and yes, even some
men), who will hear the
dreaded words, ‘You have breast
cancer.’ Equally staggering are
the odds that one in seven
women will be diagnosed in her
lifetime,” said Palmetto
Health’s Web site.
“Student organizations,
clubs, residence halls,
fraternities, family members
and friends can all participate as
a team,” Howard said.
The walk is a family event,
and strollers are encouraged as
well as skaters and runners.
However, the walk is not for
pets or bikes.
Individuals can sign up any
time in September or the 1
morning of the walk.
Individual registration is $20.
Those interested in walking
as a team must sign up by 5
p.m. Friday. Each team should
have 10 or more people, and
the entry fee is $20 per team
member.
Participants should register
at die Palmetto Health
Foundation, located at Nine
Richland Medical Park, suite
600. Teams can register from
8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
