Provost office seeks
Capstone principal
The USC Office of the Provost
is seeking applications from
current faculty to lead the
educational programs of the new
Capstone Scholar program,
scheduled to begin in August.
This half-time academic
appointment will allow the
candidate to continue in their
teaching or research capacities
within their primary department.
This principal will develop
educational initiatives for the
Capstone program, consisting of
scheduling and organizing duties
for traditional and non
traditional events benefiting
students.
The principal will report to the
associate provost and dean of
undergraduate studies and will
have collaborative responsibilities
to the Director of Residence Life
and University Housing.
The search committee will
begin looking at applications Aug.
1.

and dean of undergraduate

Campus gym picked
for design showcase
The Strom Thurmond
Wellness & Fitness Center has
been selected for inclusion in the
2005 Athletic Business
Architectural Showcase.
The showcase highlights athletic
and recreational facilities from
across the nation that display
superior architectural design and
functionality. The center will be
one of only five collegiate
recreation centers in the Southeast
included in this year’s edition.

Recreational Sports Associations
2004 Outstanding Sports Facility
Award.
Space still available
for poetry workshop
Space is still available for the
S.C. Poetry Initiative’s children’s
camp, which runs July 25-29.
The “Poetry and Art Potion
#1” camp is for children ages 6-13
and will be held from 9 a.m. to
noon at the Columbia Museum of
Art.
The cost is $60, but discounts
are available for families
registering more than two
students.
Participating students will
explore the sounds, rhythms and
meanings of words with USC’s
Split poetry program artist
Rachelle Heath. They will also
draw inspiration from the
museum’s artworks for their
writing and will collaborate with
other students to make a rain
forest and collection of African
masks.
