Wilson said she couldn’t believe
how quickly the new pope was
selected, but added that her church
had come together for the occasion.
“The atmosphere among the
people at St. Thomas More center
and at Mass was absolutely
amazing,” she said. “It was like
electricity, and I felt so connected
to the millions of people around
the world in the excitement of the
new pope. It was incredible.”
Gaurav Shroff, director of
Christian Formation and Pastoral
Associate at St. Thomas More, said
he was overjoyed with the decision.
He said he was not surprised when
he heard Ratzinger had been chosen.
Shroff characterized Ratzinger’s
election the cardinals’ clear choice
to continue John Paul’s legacy and
teachings.
Although some Catholics have
expressed worries regarding
Ratzinger’s involvement with Nazi
Germany, Shroff said he couldn’t
blame the pontiff for any
indiscretions.
