The Mix's picks for holiday DVD releases TUESDAY ‘Bobby Jones, Stroke of Genius’ ‘Hero’ ‘Spider-Man 2’ OUR PICK: ‘SPIDER-MAN 2’ (PG 13) This fast-paced and surprisingly tender action flick should translate well to the small screen, with solid performances from repeat performers Tobey Maguire (in the anguished title role), Kirsten Dunst (soaking wet once again as Mary Jane Watson) and J.K. Simmons as new baddie Octo Octavius, the brilliant scientist driven mad by his own creations after a fusion experiment goes horribly awry. DVD highlights include commentary from director Sam Kaimi and Tobey Maguire, and several documentaries behind the scenes of the i-zsmmmfw production, including an “Ocumentary” on poor Octavius’s transfer from the comics to the screen. DEC. 7 ‘Bourne Supremacy' ‘Dodgeball’ ‘Maria Full of Grace’ OUR PICK: ‘MARIA FULL OF GRACE’ (R) This coming-of-age indie, about a 17-year-old girl who ingests heroine pellets to smuggle them to New York to get money for her poor Colombian family. The rustic looking film is emotionally intense, subtitled and introduces new talent Catalina Sandino Moreno as the young Maria. Be sure to rent this gem that 1 never made it to your local | mega-plex. DEC. 14 ■■■ ‘Collateral’ ‘Door in the Floor’ ‘1-Robot’ ‘Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement' OUR PICK: ‘COLLATERAL’ (R) Tom Cruise tosses out his soul, along with his hair coloring, as the menacing and powerful assassin, bent on working his way down a to-kill list by the night’s end, with the reluctant assistance of cab driver Max, played by the newly serious and pre-”Ray” Jamie Foxx. The bulk of the film taking place in the claustrophobic confines of the cab, relying on the two lead’s to carry ‘Napoleon Dynamite' 'Collateral* the drama. They succeed.
