performances The biggest surprise of the
film has to be McGraw’s performance as
an abusive, alcoholic father. McGraw
slips easily into the role of Charles
Billingsley and slides smoothly from
singing to acting.
While Gaines is relatively toned down
compared to Thornton’s recent roles as
the foul-mouthed Santa in “Bad Santa”
and the rebellious Davy Crockett in “The
Alamo,” Thornton delivers, as usual, a
dynamic performance. Thornton portrays
Gaines with delicate emotion and just
enough enthusiasm to bring Gaines off
the screen and into the viewers’ hearts.
Building up to the intense action
packed State Championship where
bodies are thrown around and crushed
under the harsh lights of the AstroDome,
“Friday ‘Night Lights” has an
unconventional finale that perfectly ends
the movie. The genius of “Friday Night
Lights” comes in the fact that it does not
follow the formula of Hollywood
endings and still leaves the audience
satisfied.

HOROSCOPES
ARIES Use what you’ve recently
learned to advance in your career. You
don’t have to tell anybody what it is;
just knowing will boost your
confidence.
TAURUS It shouldn’t be long before
you have the assignment pretty well
wrapped up. You may be able to get
away for a little while then but not now.
GEMINI You’re so darned cute, it’s
hard for your admirers to leave you
alone. In the proper time and setting,
there’s no reason to resist — which
you’ve probably figured out.
CANCER As usual, your early
expenditure of energy pays off. You’re
prepared when a critic asks pointed
questions. If you’re not ready yet,
hustle.
LEO By now you should be just about
ready to start taking on new projects.
You should pretty well kriow what
you and the others want. If not, do
that first.
VIRGO You may feel like you’re
pouring money into a hole.
Hopefully, it has a bottom, and you’ll
be pleased with the results. Stay in
control as much as you can; the worst
is just about over.
LIBRA By doing things yourself, you’ll
learn and save more. Don’t sit around
and wait for someone else to come to
your rescue. Others do it themselves
all the time. How hard can it be?
(Electrical wiring and dentistry
excluded.)
SCORPIO Gather up as much as you
can; you’ll have new interests soon.
Save some money to buy instructional
books for yourself. Educational videos
work even better.
SAGITTARIUS There’s no reason why
a great, thoughtful, compassionate
person like you should be broke.
Allow abundance to come into your
pocket. Then don’t spend it all on
your friends.
CAPRICORN The cleaner you get all
the nooks and crannies, the better
you’re going to feel. And the more
confidence you’ll have when asking
for the next thing you want.
AQUARIUS Your admirers come from
far and near. There’s hardly enough
time to entertain them all, especially
with chores to be done. Tomorrow
will be even worse. Send out for food.
PISCES Figure out what’s needed and
required, and do what you can to
provide it for a person who’s slightly
confused. You’ll acquire a lifelong
friend.
