Activities introduce
parents to college life

The annual USC Parents Weekend starts today,
and Student Government officials said they are
proud of the possibilities for this year’s program.
“I think it is great that (USC) can put this on for
parents,” SG President Zachery Scott said. “This
gives the university a chance to not only show what
USC is about, but also see a good football game.”
Scott said the weekend has been very successful
in years past and has provided parents with an
opportunity to come to campus and see where
their students live and what they are learning.
With such fon, though, Scott says large crowds
of parents flock to see their children, filling up
local hotels.
“The university lets it be known to hotels that
this weekend is coming so they can prepare,”
Scott said.
According to the USC Parent’s Program Web
site, registration for the weekend begins at 10 a.m.
on Friday, and the First scheduled event of the day
gives parents the opportunity to take a “Historic
Campus Tour” starting from Rutledge College on
the historic Horseshoe.
At 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, there will be a
“College Parents 101” class in the Russell House
Theater, and at 8 p.m. the Carolina Beach Bash
will be held in the Strom Thurmond Fitness &
Wellness Center.
On Saturday, registration will continue at 10
a.m. in Russell House room 201. The weekend
culminates with a tailgate party later in the day at
4:30 p.m. on the USC practice field, followed by the
Gamecock football team feeing the Troy University
Trojans at Williams-Brice Stadium at 7 p.m.
Scott said USC “is happy to have the opportunity
to show parents what they are putting their money
into, as well as how to have a good time.”
