ARIES It’s important for you to
be nice. Be polite, especially
when you disagree with
somebody. It’s a test of your
good manners and your ability
to lead.
TAURUS If you continue to
follow the rules you’ve
learned, you’ll continue to
save. Others may call you a
penny-pincher, but you’ll
laugh all the way to the bank.
GEMINI Limit your spending a
while longer. There’s nothing
you need that you can’t do
without for a while — except
education. Stop by the library.
CANCER There’s no sense
letting people believe you’ll go
left when you intend to go
right. You try to avoid a
conflict when you can, but
some things require you to
take a stand.
LEO Better recheck your data
before you proceed. Garbage in
leads to garbage out. Test the
accuracy of your information.
VIRGO An argument about
money could bring out the
other guy’s nasty side. A
sharply spoken word can hurt,
but don’t take it too seriously.
You’ll get over it with the help
of a good meal.
LIBRA It’s still not a good idea
to say whatever you feel.
Advise your associates to be
similarly cautious. Better safe
than sorry.
SCORPIO In meetings and
workplace discussions, you’re
more likely to learn what’s
wrong than what’s right. If you
want to know, just ask. If you
don’t, stay out of earshot.
SAGITTARIUS A loved one may
not initially understand why
you’re holding the purse
strings so tight. Explain how
important it is to have some
money stashed away. Your
lesson may be remembered.
CAPRICORN There are a lot of
ways to get your meaning
across, and verbal
communication is just one of
the ways. If words fail you, try
a different approach.
AQUARIUS Something that
looked good on paper may have g
flaws that went undetected. W
When you actually start to use
this concept, you’ll find the
flaws. Bet on it.
PISCES You don’t have to have
a million bucks to be happy.
You just have to appreciate
what you have, and you have a
lot.

Confessions of a true Hanson fan
JENNI DILLARD
THE GAMECOCK
SECOND-YEAR PRINT JOURNALISM
STUDENT
When people discover I’m a
Hanson fan their response is usu
ally either “They’re still around?”
or “Eeewww, you like Hanson?”
My reply to the first question is
“Oh yes very much so” and to the
second, “What’s wrong with that?”
Both questions are usually followed
by a lame rendition of “MMMBop”
provoking me to roll my eyes and
shake my head at their lack of ed
ucation in Hanson fandom.
But it isn’t their fault they
haven’t kept up with the goings
on of Hanson like I have for the
past seven years. After forgiving
them, I proceed to help them un
derstand what my love for Hanson
is all about and hope they will re
spect me for it in the end.
Music has been part of my life
for as long as I can remember. My
dad and grandpa are musicians,
and I have always been surround
ed by different genres of music,
The first time I saw Hanson I
felt an immediate connection. In
a world of music that all seemed
the same they were different. I
identified with them in a way that
I never have with any other band.
They wrote and played their own
music. The lyrics in their songs
were amazing, something I’d nev
er heard from people my age.
Music is a very personal but uni
versal thing—each person should
be able to understand what others
feel when they are transfixed by a
certain song, musician or band.
If everyone could comprehend
what it’s like to feel that way
about someone’s music and re
member that feeling when some
one else likes a band, I think we
would better understand one an
other. Just because it’s not the
same song, band, or musician, it’s
still the same feeling.
I’ve been judged by what I listen
to far too often and it’s taught me
to not be too quick to label people
because of what they like. We’re all
more complicated than we seem.
I’m sick of defending myself for

fixed mentality that has caused
most of the population to discred
it their true talent. It’s been a long,
slow battle for Hanson to prove it
is more than “MMMBop” and that
the music really is what matters
most. Bearing their hearts to the
world through their tunes has
earned them a lot of criticism, but
they have persevered, and that
dedication one of the things that
makes them admirable.
If people would just give them
a chance, they’d see that the
Hanson brothers have come a long
way from their bubblegum begin
nings. They are real musicians
who have real talent. And if you
pay attention to their peers in the
music business, you’ll realize the
respect they hold for them as true
musicians. I think Taylor put it
best when he said, “No matter
what you do, people want to figure
out where to put you. You have to
continue to educate people.”
The road to credibility has been
a long one for the band, but hope
fully people will finally begin to re
spect them for their tunes — and
