Should I try to be her friend? ANSWER: The short answer in most cases is “NO!" Why would you? In hopes that she will see what a good guy you are and want to be your girlfriend again? To pretend that you are not hurt and being dumped did not bother you? The latter comes under the rubric of “baloney.” Most people are hurt; their self concept is bruised, and they need time and space to heal and to re-ground themselves after being discarded in a romantic relationship. It is good that your girlfriend was clear with herself and honest with you in regard to her feelings. It would have been worse if she had strung you along, but the friend bit is also a type of holding on, and most people need to be let go and given space to recover before ) considering friendship, if she cannot understand that, I would ask the question concerning what kind of friend she is to you. QUESTION: I am having trouble getting my work done. I have five classes and a job and just don’t have time to do everything I need to do. What can I do? ANSWER: As most college students have experienced at one time or another, time management can seem like an impossible task. It takes much planning, but it can be done. Scheduling your activities in a day planner can help you keep organized. You will be able to see how much time you have to do things outside of class and work. Try making a list of everything that you need to do and prioritize them each day. Be sure to cross off the items you complete so that you feel a sense of accomplishment. Remember to keep some personal time open to do activities that you enjoy. This is important because it will help you not get teo overwhelmed by your schedule. QUESTION: This is my first year at USC, although I am a junior. I live off campus and am having a hard time meeting people and making friends. I transferred here for a specific program, but am discouraged because I am so lonely, I am thinking about leaving at the end of the semester, although I know that it would be better to stick it out. What do you think I should do? ANSWER: There are many things to consider when making the decision to leave school, and often times we need help. It can be difficult to make new friends and meet people when you are new to an area. Before making your decision, explore several of the resources available at USC so that you can make an informed decision. You may want to go to the USC Web site and look for groups where you can meet people who share common interests. Also, consider soliciting advice from family and friends and other people in your support network. Finally, coming to the CHDC may be a good way to sort through difficult decisions. Don’t complain. Get friends with technical expertise to help. TAURUS It seems like the more that you make, the more you spend. Try giving priority to your savings account first. GEMINI Somebody you care deeply about feels the same way back. You suspected as much, but don’t take this love for granted. It’s precious. CANCER You’re still in that awkward learning phase where some of the things you try don’t work. Do your best to minimize costs, though some of them are unavoidable. LEO Your relationship may be somewhat puzzling, but that’s not always bad. It gives you motivation to learn, and that adds to the fun. VIRGO You’re not only working your regular job, but also doing a renovation just for the fun of it. If you aren’t, then get started. LIBRA You’re looking good and learning fast, and there’s not much better than that. Don’t overlook a promise you made, however. Better scan your lists. SCORPIO Money may be slipping through your fingers much faster than anticipated. Buy something substantial for your home. It’ll be a good investment. SAGITTARIUS You don’t usually set out to be controversial, but sometimes things turn out that way. Be gentle with someone who has a lot to learn. CAPRICORN Muses are whispering in your ear, telling you to count your money. If you need more cash, simply ask for it, although work will be required. AQUARIUS You look marvelous! And you’re lucky now. There’s also a brilliant idea right on the tip of your mind. You can make it happen if you visualize it in detail. PISCES To avoid frustration, get your partner to do all the talking. You can sit there, quietly raging, providing the motivation. CALENDAR |M \3il l li.~ 1 J ^ r p.m. Wednesday and ■ Thursday.
