coach Dave Odom thinks so, too.
“I would hope that we could be
uplifting to our team without be
ing grossly derogatory to others. I
don’t think there’s a place in col
lege sports for that,” he said.
Can’t we please act like civi
lized human beings? Can’t we be
better than that? When you want

I had a hunch before the game
that the students would again re
sort to name-calling in the likes of

and passed it up to Matt
Bonner, who got the dunk that
put the Gators ahead for good.

Orleans insisted he was feel
ing fine late in the game.
“I just felt like I was giving
it all. I didn’t feel like I was
tired,” he said. “We showed
like we could play with any
body in the country.
Brown’s explanation for his
missed tip-in was simply that
he “was just too excited.”
“Once (the ball) came into
my hands, I was too anxious
to put it backup.”
Still, when the Gamecocks’
conference schedule gets
tougher over the course of the
season, USC knows it can rely
upon Kitchings and Brown to
lead the offensive surge.
