Francine... Consequently, I don’t have
long to live.”

promoted, had little success in
| theaters, but word of mouth gave
it a cult following, and at the MTV
Movie Awards, Anderson received
the Best New Filmmaker Award.
In May 2000, in Interview
Magazine, Wilson talked about
“Bottle Rocket.”
“It’s nice to have someone come
up and mention “Bottle Rocket.”
Not many people saw it when it
came out in theaters, but then it
got a second or third chance on ca
ble and video. If somebody comes
up and compliments me on
“Armageddon” or “Anaconda,”
lit’s nice, but it’s ndt really the
same.”
Two years later, Wilson and
Anderson completed their second
film, “Rushmore,” a comedy about
a high school student’s crush on
his teacher.
The same dry humor and de
piction of oddball characters that
characterized “Bottle Rocket” dis
tinguished “Rushmore.” The cast
ing of Bill Murray illustrated their
growing reputations, and Jason
Schwartzman's brilliant portrayal
of protagonist Max Fisher pulled
him out of obscurity. The film was
not a success; in Interview
Magazine, Wilson said: “That
drives me insane that movies that
are personal, independent-spirit,
handcrafted movies, such as
“Rushmore”, get thumbs-down,
and then “Anaconda” and “The
Haunting” get thumbs up. I can
live to be a hundred, and I’ll never
understand it.”
Despite the failure of “Rushmore,”
Wilson and Anderson didn’t give up
their passion for making extraordi
narily unordinary comedies.
Wilson and Anderson’s third
film, “The Royal Tenenbaums,” so
lidified their reputations with its
wit and memorable picture of a pe
culiar family of geniuses played
by some of the most respected ac
tors in the industry, including
Gene Hackman, Angelica
Houston, Ben Stiller and Gwyneth
Paltrow.
. “The Royal Tenenbaums” re
ceived a great deal of critical ac
claim, finally proving there is a
place in Hollywood for Wilson and
Anderson’s inventive style.

HOROSCOPES
ARIES There are a few more
lessons to be learned,
unfortunately. Success is still
slightly beyond your grasp.
It’ll help to be frugal, so make
the effort.
TAURUS You’ve encountered
this hassle before, but this
time you’re not alone. A loved
one provides the
encouragement. Take a stand.
GEMINI Don’t forget to do
something you promised. It
concerns either your place or
one of your roommates.
Postpone travel and romance
until you’ve met this
obligation.
CANCER You and your friends
can block a measure you
oppose by sticking together.
You don’t have to say much —
except, of course, “no.”
LEO This is not a good day to
throw caution to the wind. The
profit is in the details. Fine
craftsmanship pays, and saves,
in the long run.
VIRGO You’re very perceptive
but not very assertive. You
didn’t used to be assertive,
anyway. But that’s about to
change —big time.
LIBRA There’s plenty of love.
It’s the money that may have
you concerned. Don’t be afraid
of the numbers. Face them
squarely.
SCORPIO You’ll solve your
dilemma with the help of a
couple of friends. One distracts
your adversary while another
helps you find exactly what
you need.
SAGITTARIUS You’re good, '■•id
the task is still daunting. Not
only is it tough, but your oi l
methods won’t work. Ask.1
Virgo with power to teach you.
CAPRICORN Your persistence
is paying off! That, plus yc. ■ 1
hard work. A person you
admire thinks you’re fabulous
And it’s true!
AQUARIUS You may feel as if
you’ve dropped anchor. Your
forward movement is stopped.
Don’t tight it. Take time for
appraisal, and add up your
resources again.
PISCES The others may argue
about what they can’t have,
but you know there’s always
enough. It isn’t a matter of how
much there is; it’s how you
hold it that’s important.
