An intensive air search was planned Saturday for Elizabeth Smart, the girl who was last seen in red satin pajamas being forced at gunpoint out her bedroom window in front of her terrified sister. Police acknowledged they have no leads on the girl’s disappearance from the wealthy Federal Heights neighborhood four days ago. Some of the most promising of hundreds of tips haven’t panned out. "I am frustrated,” Salt Lake Police Chief Rick Dinse said at a news conference Friday. Dinse said police have some ev idence an intruder was in the house, though he wouldn’t reveal it. He also refused to discuss the conversation the intruder had with the sisters be fore taking Elizabeth. The police chief also expressed frustration with the crime scene. He said at least 10 of the Smarts’ neigh bors were invited into the house be fore police could arrive at 4 a.m. Wednesday. "Everyone is still a suspect,” Salt Lake City Police Capt. Scott Atkinson said. But the family is not the focus of the investigation, po lice said. Sheriff’s deputies on Friday questioned the credibility of a vol unteer searcher who said he spot ted a man matching a description of the intruder and acting evasively in the woods at the top of Emigration Canyon, just east of Salt Lake City An all-night search yielded nothing, and sheriff’s spokeswom an Peggy Faulkner said the volun teer and his twin brother were wearing fake law badges. Police discounted another lead Friday from the manager of a con venience store two miles from Elizabeth’s house who produced a video tape from his store’s security camera. Police said the man shown on the tape wasn’t a suspect. Looking for Journalism experience? Come and write for The Gamecock! Writing spots open for summer and fall semesters.
