Patel CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 to reach a conclusion, Hark said. “We’ll need to determine when ‘May November’ is, and I think that there needs to be an addi tion of at least another senator, a member at large, to give us an odd number for voting.” Hauglum said Thursday she was “in agreement with Aaron on, I think, about all of those issues.” She said she would like some thing similar to the proposed constitution to be the result of the commission’s work. She said that, if Palms follows Patel’s advice “we have to do it all over again.” “I think it’s a shame,” Hauglum said. “I really think that that works against us.” Hauglum agreed with Hark’s call for another senator to join Judiciary Committee chair woman Sarah Bayko and Finance Committee chair woman Sarah McLaulin. “If the Senate’s going to ap prove whatever we come to, I think there should be more rep resentation from them,” Hauglum said. But she said CSJC would cooperate with the commis sion. “We’re going into it with an open mind,” Hauglum said. At the conclusion of the Senate meeting Wednesday, College of Liberal Arts Sen. Zach Scott expressed concern that the new constitution might not go into effect. “The people voted for it, and 90 percent voted [for it], so it needs to get done,” Scott said. Scott was caught at the center of a recent controversy when Patel removed him from the Elections Reform Commission last week. Patel said Scott had lied to him about how the sena tor would vote on the Public Endorsement Prohibition Act, but Scott said he never promised Patel his vote. The Faculty Senate has passed a res olution urging the board to re ject the report altogether but to use it only as advice for the new president when Palms leaves in June. Provost Jerry Odom, who also served as chairman for the SDI Committee, has said procedural aspects of the plan “will occur af ter the president decides what rec ommendations he will take to the board.” The question of implementa tion has also stemmed controver sy because of Palms’ retirement. “Whatever is done, eventually down the road, should not be done until a new permanent pres ident becomes president of USC,” government and international studies professor Jerel Rosati said. Rosati was one of the major contributors to the Faculty Senate’s resolution to reject the SDI report. Palms will also make recom mendations today about the ex pansion of the Honors College. The report recommended a larger Honors College by “recruiting numbers of the most talented and diverse students.” The Honors College has been the center of a housing controversy this spring with Horseshoe apartments being made available solely to Honors College students. This expansion also ties into the enrollment management concerns outlined in the report. USC has the most diverse student population in the country, with minorities making up 24 percent of the stu dent body — a figure that could drop if USC increases its admis sions requirements, vice president of Student and Alumni Services Dennis Pruitt said. With a new university presi dent next fall and an administra tion looking to restructure the college as a whole, Palms’ rec ommendations to the board to day are just the beginning of the implementation of the SDI re port. A crew of about 16 people started filming Wednesday and will wrap up Friday. Gardner said the crew is still on schedule, despite delays because of bad weather Thursday morning. Crewmembers, directors and student actors have been con tinually moving around campus and working at dozens of loca tions. Gardner said she is impressed with the level of acting experi ence the students have dis played. Student actors rearranged their schedules to work around the 12- to 14-hour shooting days. “I think everything has gone very well,” Gardner said. “The students on campus have been incredibly helpful.” Second-year electronic jour nalism student Nathan Tuten has a role in the video and also offered his dorm room as a loca tion for one of the film’s scenes. Tuten said he was surprised by the large amount of equip ment that had to be brought into his room. “I thought it was going to be a-small little shoot, and then they bring in about eight crew members with all their equip ment,” Tuten said. “It took about two hours to set up, but it was done really well.” Fourth-year advertising stu dent Ron Cohen said the univer sity is “going all out” with the video. • “It’s more like a student life video — what actually happens when you get to this university,” Cohen said. Mad Monkey usually produces commercials, but the company took great interest m the project when the V isitor Center contact ed them, Gardner said. She said the project, which will take about four weeks to produce and edit,, should be finished this summer.
