The writers, with glib honesty, acknowledge this by announcing that the tragedies are much funnier than the comedies, and it’s true. The brief review of the English histories could also be clearer, but it’s rendered humorous by its sheer preposterousness. This is no “Rosencrantz and Guildenstem Are Dead,” and the only philosophical truths onstage come from the often badly mangled words of Shakespeare himself. It is, however, a tremendously fun and well-done bit of spoofery worth the cost of admission. So get out there, cut loose and have some fun with Shakespeare.
