HOROSCOPES
ARIES (March.21-April 19): A
talent scout is watching. Put on
a great performance.
TAURUS (April 20-May 20): An
issue you've been worried about
is finally resolved. Even if you
decided not to do something you
wanted to do, celebrate.
GEMINI (May 21-June 20): You
have a lot now, but that might
not always be the case. Better
stash some more away for the
future.
CANCER (June 21-July 22): It's
wise to get help from a person
with a lot of experience. Be
smart, especially if somebody
important is watching.
LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): There's
no slack — you're working
from morning to night. It's
about time. You've let things
stack up. Hit it hard so that
you can do what your mate
wants on Saturday night.
VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): A few
final touches, and you can relax.
Take a break. Now, be a
gracious host or hostess.
LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Don't be
discouraged, even when
something you try doesn't work.
It's part of the learning process.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): You're
getting inspired and determined.
The first thing you try may not
work, but the second or third
thing will. Keep at it!
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21):
This day isn't much fun, but it
could be quite productive. You
I could benefit from your
participation, so hustle!
CAPRICORN(Dec. 22-Jan. 19):
Allocate less time for work and
more tinfe for family.
Somebody who'd never ask will
benefit enormously.
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18):
Easy does it. Your finances
don't stretch quite far enough to
fulfill all your fantasies yet.
Does that mean you should
abandon your dreams? You
can't! Take on more work
instead.
PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20):
Continue to be pleasant, even if
someone gets hostile. It's a very
effective defense. Also listen,
just in case there's a lesson to
be learned. You’ll win this one.
RESTAURANT REVIEW
One kickin’ chicken
BY SUMMER WHITESIDE
THE GAMECOCK
Our favorite chicken has
found a new home. Birds on a
Wire, a Columbia institution,
has relocated to a new building
on Devine Street. From the
muted, pea-green walls to the
chickens chirping in the
bathroom*, you’ll find that
Birds on a Wire has comfortably
settled into its new location.
When we first arrived, we
were immediately greeted by
the hostess and told there was a
short waiting list. This wasn’t a
problem because the restaurant
has a full service bar where
customers can wait to be seated.
After a short wait, we were
taken to our table and greeted
by our attentive waitress. She
told us about the specials and
the wine list. Birds on a Wire
has an extensive wine selection,
with red, white and sparkling
wines sold by the glass and the
bottle. We decided on the
Leaping Lizard Chardonnay, a
crisp white California wine.
The wine complemented our
appetizers: the chicken nachos
with pulled chicken and a
creamy cheese sauce, and the
excellent crab cakes with a
jalapeno mayonnaise.
Birds on a Wire also has a
variety of salads to choose from,
including the Classic Iceberg
Wedge.
Choosing an entree was a
difficult proposition
considering the number of
exceptional choices available. I
decided on the nightly special, a
crab cake-stuffed fish fillet
served with a ribeye steak. The
steak was cooked to perfection,
and the fish was delicious.
My friend ordered the
chicken marsala simmered in
garlic and marsala wine with
mushrooms and shallots, which
was equally delicious.

Ben and

next door
Most of the dinner selections
come with a choice of a side item.
Highlights are the bleu cheese
mashed potatoes, the ravioli of
the day, baked sweet potatoes
with nutmeg and cinnamon, the
com and feta salad, and creamy
cheese grits.
Birds on a Wire also has a
variety of desserts, which change
on a daily basis, though the Ben
and Jerry’s next door is just as
tempting.
The best thing about Birds on
a Wire is the food’s consistency.
I’ve never had a bad meal there,
and I have always left feeling
satisfied. Though the parking
situation can be lacking, Birds on
a Wire is definitely worth a visit.
Atmosphere: A spirited,
comfortable, American-style
restaurant with Southern
accented cuisine.
Recommended dishes:
chicken nachos, all soups,
Ginny’s Chicken Salad, Low
Country Po Boy, any of the
chicken combos, blackened pork
tenderloin, ravioli of the day.

around 30 wines, more than half
of which are priced in the teens
and $20s.
Price range: Lunch,
appetizers, $5-$9; dinner entrees,
$7 to $17; desserts, $4 to $6.
