Voting for all Student Government offices, as well as potential changes in the SG
Constitution, begins today and continues through Thursday. On the ballot are 10
candidates for executive office — five presidential hopefuls, two would-be vice
presidents and three potential treasurers — and dozens of students running for the Senate.
Below is a guide to the candidates, their platforms and where to find more information.

FOR PRESIDENT
The responsibilites of the Student Government president include vetoing or signing legislation that passes the Student Senate; calling special sessions of the Senate if they ’re needed;
recommending legislation to the Senate; addressing the Senate at the beginning of each semester (the president now traditionally addresses Senate each week); appointing Cabinet
members for confirmation by the Senate; removing Cabinet officials if necessary; and acting as the representative of Student Government.

That’s why it is way past time that
SG actually served the interests of the
student body instead of their own self
interests. We need reform and we need
it now.
During this campaign I have made
it a point to tell you about not what I
will do, but what I am doing right now.
These issues include an expansion of
online syllabi from faculty members,
a one-day extension to the drop/add pe
riod to allow all classes a chance to
meet before the period ends, creating
an online textbook exchange, working
with computer services to improve our
ethernet, and creating the SAFE pro
gram to protect our university from
budget cuts.
It’s time SG represented us as stu
dents, instead of itself. Put the student
back in Student Government; vote

to do this by serving as the resounding
and active voice of the students; voicing
our priorities and concerns, reforming

Now, I extend to you a challenge; I
challenge you to believe in a fresh lead
ership that is interested only in student
welfare, not personal glorification. I
also challenge you to willingly submit
ideas and questions with the knowl
edge that they will be taken to the
board and discussed on your behalf and
that they will be openly reported for
your feedback. I have no conflict of in
terest. If there is only one person on
that board to represent you, shouldn’t

ideas and is willing to fight for your

my platform. I am fighting to preserve

volved in the fight against budget cuts.
We also need to have a more efficient
parking system.
I want to keep up with the safety con
cerns of the students. We need more
lighting and self-defense classes that of
fer college credit. I have talked to the
faculty and administration and all we
really need for these things to happen
are the student’s ideas.

find the best solutions for USC.
I want to develop an academic for
giveness policy at USC. With this policy
in place, students can repeat one to two
courses and have the grade from the
first time taken off their record.
Compared to the many other schools,
we are at a disadvantage not having this
policy.
With all the changes coming to USC,
I will work hard to find solutions to stu
dent’s concerns and make the best de
cisions on behalf of the student body.

Responsibilites include enforcing Student Government Finance Codes, serving as a non-voting member of the
Senate Finance Committee, keeping records of SG funds, helping prepare and present SG budget and holding
the annual treasurer’s workshops, which all student organizations must attend to receive funding.
