‘Malcolm’ suits up
for Super Bowl
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Think
you know football? So who won
the Super Bowl in 1996? 1998?
2001?
The answers, in order, are
“Friends,” “3rd Rock From the
Sun” and “Survivor II: The
Australian Outback” — series
that received the prized postgame
spot and enviable audience
spillover.
Because the Super Bowl pro
vides television’s single biggest
predictable audience, playing pig
gyback with the quarterbacks can
mean extra ratings yardage for a
show.
The debut episode of “Survivor
II,” for example, aired after last
year’s Super Bowl and ended up
scoring at the most popular en
tertainment program of the 2000
01 season.
“This is one you don’t want to
waste. It’s golden ammunition,”
said industry analyst Larry
Gerbrandt of Kagan World Media.
Fox’s ‘Chamber’ shut
down temporarily
NEW YORK (AP) - Fox’s “The
Chamber,” the game show that
quizzes contestants as they’re buf
feted by wind, water or heat, can’t
stand the heat itself.
The network has taken the
show off the air after it drew a pal
try 5.6 million viewers in its pre
miere in its Friday time slot last
week. It ranked at No. 89 in
Nielsen Media Research’s week
ly list.
Fox said “The Chamber” will
be back at some future date.
Reruns of “Malcolm in the
Middle” and “That ’70s Show”
will fill its slot this week.
Fox raced “The Chamber” on
the air to beat ABC’s similar
game show, “The Chair.” ABC
has sued Fox, claiming the net
work stole its idea.
“The Chair,” with John
McEnroe as host, might have won
its personal battle with Fox, but
could be in some danger itself. It
drew 9.8 million viewers last
Tuesday, ranking No. 57 for the
week.
‘Powers’ petitioned
for infringement
LOS ANGELES (AP) - MGM pe
titioned the Motion Picture
Association of America to ban the
suggestive name of the New Line
Cinema “Austin Powers” sequel,
“Goldmember,” saying it in
fringed on the title of its 1964
James Bond thriller, “Goldfinger.”
The MPAA ordered New Line
to stop using the title last week.
New Line said it plans an ap
peal, arguing the MPAA ap
proved the title of its 1999 sequel
“Austin Powers: The Spy Who
Shagged Me,” a parody of the 1977
Bond film “The Spy Who Loved
Me.”
Screen Actors Guild
releases nominations
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIF.
(AP) — The Screen Actors Guild
released its SAG awards nomina
tions on Tuesday. The math ge
nius drama “A Beautiful Mind”
and the family tragedy thriller
“In the Bedroom” each had a lead
ing three nominations. Russell
Crowe, star of “A Beautiful
Mind,” received another actor
nomination and co-star Jennifer
Connelly had a top actress nomi
nation. Sissy Spacek had an ac
tress nomination for playing a
grieving mother in the dark sub
urban tale “In the Bedroom,” and
Tom Wilkinson, who plays her
angry husband, had a best actor
mention.
“A Beautiful Mind” and “In the
Bedroom” also had best ensemble
performance nominations, the
Actors Guild equivalent of the
Academy Award for best picture.
Other top ensemble nominees:
“Gosford Park,” a British murder
mystery featuring more than 30
characters; the fantasy yam “The
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship
of the Ring”; and the revisionist
musical “Moulin Rouge.”

HOROSCOPES
ARIES (MARCH 21-APRIL 19)
Work will interfere with play.
No point in whining about it.
Rearrange your schedule. By
about Friday night, you should
be out of this mess.
TAURUS (APRIL 20-MAY 20)
You're not alone; you have
someone who wants to take
care of you. Let that person
fuss over you. Tip generously.
It's a justifiable expense.
GEMINI (MAY 21-JUNE 21)
Slow down and go over your
notes. Reassess the situation.
At first it looked like the
answer was simple. But the
more you learn, the more
complicated it's becoming. No
need to rush. Don't overlook an
important detail.
CANCER (JUNE22-JULY22)
Circumstances are forcing you
to tackle a difficult subject.
This is a class you wish you
could skip, but you can't. It's a
requirement. Keep your chin
up. You'll do better than you
expect.
LEO (JULY 23-AUG. 22)
It looks like you won one bet but
lost another, so don't race out
and spend a windfall on toys.
There's money coming in, but
there's also money going out.
VIRGO (AUG. 23-SEPT. 22)
You're stronger and more
confident now. You don’t have to
put up with an old annoyance
anymore. You can tell the
person in charge what's been
bothering you. The odds are
good you can get this thing fixed.
LIBRA (SEPT. 23-OCT 22)
Slow down and go over your
lists. Make sure you've done
everything you promised.
You've let the paperwork stack
up, and some of those details
are important. There are some
paybacks that need to be taken
care of immediately.
SCORPIO (OCT. 23-NOV. 21)
Something you want to get rid
of could be useful to a friend.
This person has something you
can use, too. Broker a trade
that works for you both.
SAGITTARIUS (NOV. 22-DEC. 21)
You run into a critic as soon as
you start your new adventure.
Maybe this person can be tamed
with good logic and a sense of
humor. If not, try cookies.
CAPRICORN (DEC. 22-JAN. 19)
You might find time to get out of
your workplace for a moment
or two. Let a trusted partner or
employee take over for a while.
AQUARIUS (JAN. 20-FEB. 18)
This time you're the recipient
of whatever’s coming. It could
be energy or even a gift, and
it’s most likely beneficial. But
getting it might be
uncomfortable until you give
something back.
PISCES (FEB. 19-MARCH 20)
You don't have to know
everything. You have a good
partner. If you don't, go get
one. This person will help you
calm down, remember details
and act quickly. Be willing to
put up with an “I told you so”
attitude. It's a small price to
pay.
