Beam to hold show

You might get the feeling you’ve
heard these songs before.
The band’s strong point lies in
vocalist Kevin Carter’s lyics. He
has stressed in interviews that,
although Beam plays hard rock,
its message is positive and, at
times, even spiritual. His lyrics
are in thp vein of pre-Actung
Baby U2.
Contributing to Beam’s high
energy rock are Tommy Koesel
and Lewis Taylor on rhythm and
lead guitars, Kevin Waugh on
bass and Robert Savage on
drums.
The show starts at 9 p.m. The
$5 admission includes a free din
ner of kabobs, seafood and other
appetizers on the deck.
Cosmic Fame and Beam will
also perform live on WUSC Sat
urday at 4 p.m., and Cosmic
Fame is scheduled to play at the
Elbow Room again on Nov. 7,
opening for Harlow, a partici
pant in VHl’s show Bands on the
Run.

Congratulations. After years
of toil, you are now officially
the party star. Not only are you
the hippest kid this side of
Sumter Street, but you throw

that is USC.
It’s Saturday night, you’re
feeling all right and the party is
at your place once again. Only,
uh oh, someone forgot to go to
Green’s for the necessary
equipment. In fact, all you have
is apple juice, butter, celery
salt, ginger ale, grenadine,
nutmeg, a banana and the rock
and roll star’s drink of choice,
Zima. So now what? Where do
you turn?

Well, while the gang is in the
bathroom testing the black and
white tile to see whether it’s
comfortable enough to sleep on,

final book in the trilogy is a
complete disappointment. The
Hobbit seemed to get the
important stuff right, anyway,
but The Return of the King gets
almost everything wrong. And
as if that weren’t enough,
Rankin/Bass invited Glen
Yarbrough back, and he gets to
sing even more (insert gagging
sound here).
While watching these films
is a nice way to catch up before
seeing the live-action film in
December, only Bakshi’s Lord
of the Rings is a work of art.
The Hobbit is fun in a juvenile
way, but The Return of the King
is just plain inexcusable. And
who knows how the next
attempt at retelling Tolkein’s
masterpiece will turn out? It’s
quite likely Bakshi’s film did
more justice to the trilogy than
the new live-action one will.
