Free music for everyone
BY BROOK BRISTOW
THE GAMECOCK
The Internet music game has
a new player: FightCloud.com.
While fightcloud isn’t a down
loading service, it does provide
free music. New artists promote
their CDs here by giving them
away to the public.
How it works is simple: go to
the Web site, click on the link for
the genre you’re interested in
and then listen to the CDs in that
category.
If you like the music, you can
order it for free. As always,
though, there’s a catch: a $4.95
shipping and handling charge
that covers the artist’s costs in
manufacturing, warehousing
and shipping.
Right now, FightCloud.com is
a little thin, with only four artists
on its roster.
The lineup consists of country
singer/songwriter Marc Corey
Lee, who has performed with
Dwight Yoakum, Merle Haggard
and Jo Dee Messina; rap artist
Eternal Tribe; fusion jazz artist
Rico Garcia, who has performed
with such greats as George Ben
son and Sammy Davis Jr; and
film and TV composer Glenn
Scott Lacey.
Other features on Fight
Cloud.com include a CD an
nouncement newsletter, which
is e-mailed to subscribers every
time a new CD becomes available
on the site.
Another thing to check out is
the artist Submission section.
If you have a band or have
recorded a CD, you have a
chance to be featured on the Web
site.
This is a fairly well-done Web
site. The graphics are reasonable
and load quickly. The music is
well done, but the lack of selec
tion is disappointing.
This site is geared toward col
lege students, but college stu
dents usually don’t go for artists
they don’t know.
This is a great place, though,
for anyone who has a CD, isn’t
signed and wants to gain expo
sure, both nationwide and world
wide.
For now, FightCloud.com
won’t be a major player in the In
ternet music game.
Maybe once it has a full cata
logue, the California-based com
pany can contend and give these
hard-working artists the expo
sure they deserve.
