Like Casari, many Columbia resdients come to the Village Idiot to eat authenic New York style pizza and have a beer or two while watching whatever game happens to be on television that night. “I like coming here for the pizza,” Mark Childres said. “They have friendly service and good beer prices. Plus, you can watch the games they have on the TVs.” They also have an array of specialty nights. Wednesday night features live acoustic music from local acts, and Thursday nights are “Thirsty Thursdays” with $2 pitchers of Budweiser and Bud Light. On Friday nights, Pabst Blue Ribbons beers are $1, and Saturday nights has $2 Jim Beam drinks all night. The Village Idiot also provides a musical outlet for local bands. Tuesday night is Acoustic Night where local bands unplug and show the Columbia area what they can really do. During the summer months, there is The Acoustic Challenge. Local bands battle each week to compete in the finals, which are held at the end of August. The best place to be during the week from 4-8 p.m. is Sharky’s. Almost every bar in Five Points has some sort of happy hour special with cheap drinks, but Sharky’s is the only place where you can get free pizza as well as cheap beer and liquor. Sharky’s also offers a very diverse crowd. “Five Points is a cool place to hang out because you get to meet all kinds of people,” said Pamela Jenkins, a USC graduate. “You have your frat boys to your punk rockers and just about everybody in between. Sharky’s has a good mix of the crowd.” Also, the bar is also relaxed. “There are pretty friendly people, it’s a good crowd. You don’t have to worry about people coming here and starting any craziness,” Jenkins said. Knock Knock Club/ foe Flip Side 634 Harden St. Monday-Friday, 5 p.m.-until Saturday-Sunday, 7 p.m.-2 a.m. You can dance if you want to ... at the Knock Knock Club and the Flip Side because the bar is downstair and the dance floor is upstairs. “I like going to up to the Flip Side to dance. That, and the beer specials,” said Columbia resident Paul Silva. The great thing about The Knock Knock and the Flip Side is that the bar is separate from the dance floor, so in case you aren’t in the mood to dance, you can still enjoy the club. The Knock Knock and the Flip Side are also having a Back to School Bash for returning students. The bash will be held from Aug. 23-25. There will be “Magic Beer and Mini-Bottles” and prizes for the poeple who get them. So if you want to get your groove on or just have a few drinks, The Knock Knock and the Flip Side are your places.
