Cloninger CONTINUED TOM RAGE 8
to play as teammates, and will
probably receive it no matter what
way they choose. But, the choice
alone is enough to keep supporters
of the program jumping.
“It's a great program to come
to,” Gavin said. “It’s unbelievable.
Really, you can’t go wrong either
way.”
McBeth also seems to be leaning
towards the Gamecocks and his
senior year.
“I haven’t made up my mind,
but as of right now, I’m looking
toward coming to school,” McBeth
said. “If things remain the way
they are now, I can look forward
to coming back to USC in the
fall”
McBeth’s situation is made
further difficult by the fact he and
teainmate Brett Price were both
drafted by Oakland. Price waived
his senior year to sign with the
A’s, and was later joined by Tripp
Kelly, who signed a free-agent
deal.
“[Brett] would like for me to
be there with him,” McBeth
admitted. “But, it’s my decision.”
All three players have until
Aug. 23 to make a final decision.
If the three report to their first
class at USC on the 23rd, they will
be playing for USC in the spring.
However, fans should be reminded
not to count their Gamecocks
before they’re hatched. The
Phillies and A’s'are both in the
thick of pennant races and could
be looking for young collegiate
stars for their lineups.
