Cheezum said someone pulled on two
drawers and one cabinet until the secured
locks broke. Estimated damage: $30.

driver’s-side mirror off his vehicle.
Thomas believes someone kicked it off.

Employee Brandi Laval said someone
took a laptop with an estimated value of
$1500 from an office closet. Reporting

■ Illegal Use of Telephone, Wade
Hampton Residence Hall. Student
Dhruhini Eliatamby said someone who
sounds male has been calling and leaving
racist messages on her voice mail. The
investigation will continue. Reporting

Banks driving with a paper tag. The officer
pulled Banks over when he saw the rear

property, petit larceny, 1300 Johnson
Ave. Shawn Davis said his car was broken
into. Someone smashed his windows,
tore up his seat covers and stole the
battery. Estimated damage: $300.

■ Larceny of bicycle, 3900 Main St.
(BiLo). William Batt said that while he
was inside the grocery store, someone
stole his bicycle and rode off toward
Johnson Avenue. Batt estimates the
bicycle is worth $200. Reporting officer:

■ Animal complaint, 3507 Palmetto
Ave. John Milligan said his neighbor’s
dog was loose in his backyard. When
reporting office W. Scott arrived, however,
the dog was chained up. The officer did
write in his report that the dog seemed
vicious and seemed to be trying to break
his chain.

McCloghry saw Alvin Slater shouting at
pedestrians. Slater ltad slurred speech,
was unsteady on his feet and smelled of
alcohol. When the officer tried to arrest
Slater, he was combative and had to be
wrestled to the ground.

Ashley Apartments. Angel Wilson said
a man punched her in the chest during
an argument. The man fled before

Ashley Stanton, co-chair of the
education, literature and media category
of the Search for Six, said her committee
has mailed a letter to USC alumnus Pat
Conroy.
“We wrote a letter a month ago and
were told to mail it on a certain date, which
was last week,” Stanton said. “We have
been in contact with liis wife, and she says
she is sure he’ll come, but she doesn’t
know when because' he is writing a book.”
Brook Bristow, co-chair of the arts
and entertainment category, which is trying
to persuade Steven Spielbuig to visit USC,
said President Palms is aiding the
committee by writing a letter to Sen. Fritz
Hoi lings.
Hollings is friends with the director

of the Motion Picture Association of
America, Bristow said.
Bristow reinforced the committee's
plea for more student involvement.
“We need students’ help ... anyone
can get involved. It is going to be tough,
but it can happen,” Bristow said.
The committee is asking student
organizations to contribute one dollar per
member to Adams’ cause. Donations for
the Gesundheit Institute should be sent to
University Housing. 1215 Blossom St.,
