tified of a smell of
marijuana smoke

incident location.
When the respond
ing officers arrived,

the door and were
let in by the first
subject — the
room’s owner The
first subject was asked if there were any
illegal substances in the room. At first,
the subject denied having an illegal sub
stance, but then confessed and showed
the officers where the substance was.
The subject handed the officer a bag that
contained a pipe, a pack of rolling pa
pers, a rolled cigarette containing a green,
leafy substance believed to be marijua
na and one clear plastic bag believed
0 to contain marijuana. Both subjects were
arrested and transported tp the USCPD
headquarters for booking. A court date
was set and the subjects were arrested.
The evidence was placed into the evi
dence locker.
Suspicious activity. The complainant
said that three of his children were ap
proached by an unknown man. The com
plainant said the subject tried to get the
children into his car. The complainant
said the children ran into their apart
ment. An investigator was notified

was notified of a gas leak by the Co
lumbia Police De
partment that was
caused by con
struction crews.

control in the area.

& Gas personnel responded. The sur
rounding residences and buildings were
evacuated by CFD personnel. The util
ity crews stabilized the situation.

Arson. Capstone. The complainant said
persons unknown set fire to the floor’s
message board and caused damage to the
board and the walls. The damage was es
timated at $200. The investigator re
sponded to the scene and investigated.
The investigation continues. The evi
dence was entered into a locker.
Disorderly conduct. Senate and Marion
streets. The responding officers observed
a subject cross Senate Street, stop and
urinate in public. When the officers ques
tioned the subject, they noticed a strong
smell of alcohol on the subject and an
unsteadiness in his movements. The sub
ject was placed under arrest and taken
to the Richland County Detention Cen
ter. The subject was chaiged with dis
orderly conduct. A court date was set.

mester, the Golden Wing Award, the Sen
ator of the Year Award, Golden Angel
Award, Hall Government of the Year, Ad
viser of the Year, Resident Adviser of the
Year and the Executive Board Member
of the Year and Outstanding RHA Leader
Award.
New secretary for the RHA execu
tive board Brad Dawgert said: “RHA is
important because every week we deal
with important issues that affect over
6,000-plus students who live on campus.”
Other affiliates of RHA and Housing
authorities were present at the banquet:
WRHA Channel 8 representatives, Hous
ing Director Gene Luna and Assistant
Housing Director Andy Fink.
“The banquet tonight recognizes peo
ple who have done great jobs in the Car
olina community,” WRHA Chairman Bur
ton Hilton said.
Hilton also said that WRHA will be
working hard next year to bring students
great programming, including a student
run TV show, that’s in the works.
