USC fans tan now get the latest “in
side scoop” on USC athletics by sign
ing up to receive the “Gamecotfk In
sider” e-mail service. This latest sports
news outlet provides USC fans with the
opportunity to receive a more timely
look into the day-to-day happenings sur
rounding the Carolina sports pregram.
This new e-mail service sends in
stant information about upcoming items
of particular interestTo subscribe to

and click on the “sign up” link in the
upper left-hand comer.

South Carolina’s Jerome Jourdon
(tennis) and Joyce Peebles (track and
field) were among the 24 student ath

as recipients of an SEC post graduate
scholarship and are finalists for the 1999
2000 H. Boyd McWhorter SEC Schol
ar Athlete of the Year award, Commis
sioner Roy Kramer announced Tuesday
Jourdon, a senior from Courbevoie
France, has a 3.894 GB\ and will be grad
uated this May with a degree in busi
ness administration. Joyce Peebles is i
junior from Pendleton, who holds a 3.74*
GPA in her pre-med/biology major.
Each finalist will receive a $5,00(
scholarship for post graduate studies
The SEC Faculty Athletics Representa
tives Boyd McWhorter Selection Com
mittee will choose the outstanding malt
and female student-atliletes and receive
a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship
provided by the Alltel Corp.
The SEC Scholar Athlete of the Yeai
awards were first presented in 1986. The
award was renamed the H. Boyt
McWhorter SEC Scholar Athlete of the
Year in May 1990 to honor the formei
commissioner who served the confer
ence from 1972-86.
The award will be presented tc
the two winners in June at the SEC
Spring Meetings in Destin, Fla.
Men’s Tennis
The South Carolina men’s tennh
team will take on the Tennessee Vol
unteers 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at the San
Daniels Tennis Center in Columbia
The Gamecocks are happy to bt
home after traveling last weekend tc
No. 4 Florida and No. 22 Mississippi
State, where they were unable to knock
off the two SEC ffont-iunners. They will
face a tough Volunteer team with four
singles players ranked in the Top 100 by
the ITA and all three doubles teams
ranked, as well.
Tennessee took on Lehigh and Jack
sonville Wednesday for a mid-season
doubleheader at Jacksonville. It defeat
ed both teams easily, losing only one
point to Jacksonville, Their last SEC
match was unsuccessful against Ole Miss
last week.
South Carolina will travel to face
the LSU Tigers on Sunday.
Softball
The No. 17 Carolina softball team
(22-11) returns to SEC action with a
pair of doubleheaders against No. 21
Mississippi State and Ole Miss. USC
faces the Bulldogs at 4 p.m. Friday and
takes on the Rebels at 2 p.m. Saturday.
USC split doubleheaders with No.
24 Florida last week and suffered its first
home losses of the season. The Lady
Gamecocks are now 8-2 at Beckham
Field this season.
Last season, USC split with Missis
sippi State and swept Ole Miss. Caroli
na has already faced the Bulldogs. On
March 12, the Lady Gamecocks edged
out the Bulldogs 2-1 in the semifinals
of the USF/Speedline Invitational.
