Get
Ready!
Viki Fecas
Program Manager
Career Center
So, you’ve sur
vived your first semester
(actually made pretty
good grades) and have
declared a major. Not
much else to do until
senior year, right?
WRONG! Those two
things (good grades and
major) are keys to
options after college; so
make sure you take care
I
of those. But
remembering
where the Career
Center is (cour
tesy of
University 101)
and using it are
two different
things.
Counselors are accessi
ble to you every week
day who can help to keep
you "on track".
Some things you
need to be thinking
Nabout now are compos
ing/ updating your
resume, looking at expe
riential learning options
(shadowing, internships,
co-ops, etc.), and attend
ing special opportunities
like Job Fairs. It’s also
not too early to begin
researching prospective
employers and graduate
schools.
The world is
changing at an unprece
dented rate, therefore
the way we work is
changing. Students
today can expect to have
as many as 12-15 jobs
spanning 2-3 different
career fields.
Recent survey
results indicated that
when asked to list all the
occupations they could
think of, people could
list an average of 28.
But how many occupa
tions are out there?
What are you planning
to do with your degree?
The more you
invest in your career
planning now, the more
successful you are likely
to be in the career you
choose.
