Career Center
Think ahead for a moment. It's the month
of May and you're walking across the stage at
USC getting ready to accept the diploma that
you've worked towards for four long years (or
five years for some of us). Your friends cheer,
your mom cries. It's a happy occasion for
everyone. You spend the weekend celebrating
with friends and family and basking in the
-glory of your accomplishment. Then reality
hits. It's Monday morning, two days after
graduation and you don't have a job. You've
got a degree, a mortarboard and tassel, but no
job. Panic sets in. What are you going to do??
Hey relax! It's only March. You're still in
school and graduation is over a month away.
What better time to stop in at the Career
Center and get started on your next stage of
life? Finding a job can be a difficult and frus
trating process, but the USC Career Center is
here to help you wade through the process.
The Career Center's services are available
to students and alumni of USC. The Center
consists of two program areas: career devel
opment and employer relations. The career
development program provides career assess
ment, career information, career counseling,
computerized career guidance, and job search
assistance. Employer relations assists in part
time and summer employment, co-operative
education opportunities, paid and unpaid
career internships, job shadowing, and full
time employment opportunities upon gradua
tion through the web-based Career
Connections program.
The Center uses traditional methods such
as on-campus recruiting as well as the latest
technological innovations such as the web
based CareerConnections and video-telecon
ference interviewing to connect students and
employers. Students and employers have
twenty-four hour access from anywhere in the
world to the Center's web job listing and can
didate resume database.
Students are also encouraged to take
advantage of the numerous resources found in
the career library. Books on resume writing,
interviewing skills, and networking ire all
available to help further your career develop
ment. The library also contains an extensive
collection of resources on choosing a career
path and job searching.
So get a head start and begin thinking
about that moment in May. Remember not
only graduation but also the future employ
ment possibilities that await you after your
walk across the stage here at USC. Let the
Career Center's professional staff guide and
assist you along your career path.
